„PRZYJACIEL CHRZEŚCIJAŃSKIEJ PRAWDY” THE OLDEST POLISH THEOLOGICAL PERIODICAL: A STUDY BASED ON COPIES STORED IN THE LIBRARY OF THE THEOLOGICAL AND PASTORAL INSTITUTE AND THE SEMINARY OF RZESZÓW

Summary/Abstract: Explicit beginnings of theological journalism in Poland date back to the30s and 40s of the 19th century. The oldest periodical related to the activity ofCatholic Church was, issued in the Przemyśl diocese in the years 1833-1840,quarterly “Przyjaciel Chrześcijańskiej Prawdy”. This periodical, founded bya priest Michał Korczyński, was aimed to rise the intellectual level not only ofthe diocesan clergy but also of the higher social classes.In the Library of the Theological and Pastoral Institute and the Seminary ofRzeszów is stored a copy of the periodical issued for eight years, which is thefoundation of Polish theological journalism. This article is aimed to bring thisperiodical, forgotten today, important for the development of scientific literature.
