Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The main aim of the article is to show how demographic changes in the family area determine changes in the area of family solidarity, as well as indication of the directions of these changes. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The assumed research problem concerns the answer to the question: do demographic changes in the area of family life mean a decline in the value and norms of family solidarity? The analytical and synthetic method of literature, research and statistical data in the field of family transformation and family solidarity was applied. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The starting point of the analysis is the demographic data of family structure transformations. The changing model of family life is one of the causes of the transformations of the norm of family solidarity. In the course of the analysis, the factors and direction of transformations of this solidarity were shown. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analyzes show that the changing family structure means a reduction in the care potential of families, while at the same time verticalisation of kinship and extending family roles. Extending and narrowing the network of relatives will significantly condition the implementation of family obligations simultaneously towards several generations. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The change of attitudes of the young generation towards family solidarity assumes a greater role of non-family systems and the need to expand the institutional support system for seniors.
