METHODICAL TOOLBOX – THE FIRST WORLD WAR

Summary/Abstract: The article has some didactic proposals concerning the way to analysewhatever subject from the history curriculum. It is about the First World War taughtfor the secondary level. This subject gives the teacher the possibility to bring forwardthe chronological moments, as well as the exploration of the complexity of humanactivities, stressing the relation between causes and effects, between intentions anddecisions, between ideals and reality. All these perspectives come to help the historyteacher who, by diverse sources and instruments, can problematize the historicalevents. The objective is to prompt the students to reflect, to understand, to explore, tofind the message for today and for tomorrow. Another objective is that the studentsneed to have a better understanding of the concepts, turn them into principles andvalues, and to be aware of the utility for everyday life of the historical approach.
