Summary/Abstract: Starting from Hemingway’s novel, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, this article wants to be a meditation on the times we are going through. We learn from Maxim Gorky that in every soul is hidden a bell, which we must discover, observe and listen to its beats. With each toll of the bell we grow in the desire to do good, to flee from evil and to understand: God is with us. We live now, these days, like shipwrecks on desert islands. A plague comes and goes, disappears and reappears, threatening but not eternal, devastating, but ultimately vulnerable. The bells will toll again for each of us, calling us to synchronize with them, calling us to hope, to sing and to pray.
