Summary/Abstract: The French pronoun on – whose interpretation depends on elements of the co(n)text – may be an important means of constructing the relations between the author/researcher, the reader, and the community of researchers, as is evidenced by a growing number of studies devoted to its use in academic texts. This propriety of the pronoun on may be an significant difficulty in the translation. The author seeks to demonstrate how the relations author/researcher – the reader – other researchers built by the particular usages of on and nous have been rendered in the Polish translation of Les catégories du récit littéraire by Tzvetan Todorov (a work important for the theory of literature).
