Summary/Abstract: In this text we wanted to highlight some coordinates related to social and group perspective on the military leader and soldier motivation. The methodological frame provided by documentation and participatory observation were very helpful. Such results led us to conclude that the military leader, in addition to specific attributes of any leader (communication skills, motivation, symbolic capital, professional experience and managerial) must meet specific requirements and a series of military environment (courage, authority, decision-making power, physical force, self-discipline etc.). On the other hand, our research has shown that solidarity among soldiers is generated not only by institutional rules and hierarchy but also a series of informal interpersonal relationships within the group. This is extremely important for forming a professional army where the human factor and motivation are essential.
