Summary/Abstract: The present article is the first part of the larger study devoted to the spoken language of Soviet and Polish sports commentators. The author uses as the research material his own taperecordings of sports commentaries in the Russian and Polish languages. These recordings made it possible to the author to collect a considerable factual material. After the tapes have been deciphered the author obtained 202 pages of typescript of the Russian commentary anti 235 pages of typescript of Polish commentary. The article is devoted to the names of sportsmen in the field of sports terminology in the spoken language of sports commentators.
