Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the evolution of constitutional solutions concerning theissue of political groups. The subject of the analysis includes successive Polish constitutionsbeginning with the March Constitution1. At the same time the development of statutoryregulations referring to the functioning of political parties is shown. These Polish regulationsare aligned with the European tendency to constitutionalize political parties. AlthoughPoland experienced a delay compared to the countries of Western Europe, as a result of thenondemocratic system of the Polish People’s Republic, the principle of political pluralism hasbeen the key principle underpinning the system of government found in the Constitution ofthe Republic of Poland since December 1989.
