Summary/Abstract: If Ion G. Sbiera belongs to the plethora of intellectuals who have distinguished themselves through a continuous activity in the cultural life of Bukovina during the second half of the 19th century, then his son, Alexandru Sbiera, who was educated at the University of Vienna, is known for his activity in the administration of Bukovina in the first half of the 20th century. The documents discovered in the Archives of Suceava present the fifth son of Ion G. Sbiera as a Mayor of Câmpulung Moldovenesc between 1942 and 1944. He was twice appointed prefect of Câmpulung county (1919–1920, 1922–1924) and, for a short period of time, president of the so-called “Iorgu G. Tomaˮ Bukovina-Section of the Romanian Touring Club (1935–1940). From this position, Alexandru Sbiera was involved in the tourism development in Bukovina, becoming a reference name in the history of the matter. Counting among the intellectuals who supported the Romanian Orthodox Church, along with other important personalities, Alexandru Sbiera was decorated by King Ferdinand I with the 1st Class Medal “Reward for Work in the Service of Churchˮ.The following article brings to the readers’ attention an unfairly and far too quickly forgotten personality, which deserves a place of honour among the Romanian intellectuals who have been in the service of Bukovina.
