THE SYRIAC EASTERN KATOLICOS AS MEDIATORS OF GREEK PHILOSOPHY FOR THE CALIPHS

Summary/Abstract: The Syriac patriarchs had a very special relationship with the educational system over the centuries. Therefore, they had a very important role in the teaching process and also in the political background. The school program necessitated a total implication of the katolikos, being related of the life of the Syriac Church. In our study we try to put together this important perspective in the context of the interaction between the Siryac Church, through his katolikos, and the age of Arabs caliphs. Moreover, our interest is focused in the direction of interaction between Greek philosophy, theology and culture and the spiritual context in Bagdad.
