Summary/Abstract: Since the impact of tasawwuf on the dominant understandings of Islamic teachings and their application in the life of Muslim majority countries has waxed and waned between being weak and strong depending on various socio-political, economic, religious, and educational and ideological circumstances (because tasawwuf is, after all, the internal dimension of Islam), it is important to clarify the ways in which the practitioners of tasawwuf (mutasawwifs) understand the personality of Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h, his exemplary life, how they view the Sunna, the ways in which the Sunna was transmitted to subsequent generations, how much and in which regard are Muslims obliged to follow the Prophet p.b.u.h, and how to verify credibly what the Prophet p.b.u.h said, and what was attributed to him over time for various reasons.
