THE PERFORMANCE OF STATE RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES IN THE CONTEXT OF ENTREPRENEURIAL AND INNOVATIVE UNIVERSITY INDEX

Summary/Abstract: In developed countries, the informative knowledge on high technology and its sharing with the real sector is usually performed by higher education institutions known as “research universities”. These universities, in addition to their teaching functions at different levels, are known as the source of technological developments in our era and are considered the most important chain in the formation of positive social developments in society. Especially in North America, this cooperation is carried out very efficiently. In 2018 Higher Education Council (YÖK)in Turkey relieved 10 (ten) higher education institutions (Ankara, Boğaziçi, Erciyes, Gazi, Gebze Technical University, Hacettepe, İstanbul, İstanbul Technical, İzmir High Technology, Middle East Technical) as “research university” and five (5) higher education institutions (Çukurova, Ege, Selçuk, Uludağ, Yıldız Technical) as “a research university candidate”. Since 2012, an “entrepreneurial and innovative university index (GYÜE)” has been defined in Turkey, taking into account 23 indicators. In this article, the performance of 15 (fifteen) universities defined as research and candidate research universities throughout the country are evaluated by taking into account the total scores of the relevant index.
