Analysis of the macro and meso-environment of Universities within the European Union

Summary/Abstract: All European universities, whether public or private, are increasingly facing strong competition to develop strategies that can attract large numbers of students. One of the elements of this strategy is to better understand the influences of the macroenvironment that revolve around these universities; this is the purpose of the PESTEL model. At the same time, the universities are confronted daily with relationships with all a range of players who force them to adapt their strategy; this is the purpose of the Stakeholders model. The purpose of this article is to put these two tools into the light in order to better understand the macro and mesoeconomic constraints faced by universities.
