- Summary/Abstract:The paper provides an overview of mainly foreign theoretical knowledge of and approaches to the issue of destination governance that can be considered as a specific form of governance inspired by the experience of management and corporate governance. The concept of destination governance, characterized by cooperation and relationships between stakeholders in tourism, is presented in the context of the institutional line of regional development theories. Institutional approaches explain the elements of competitiveness, main sources of which are primarily regionally specific, mostly soft factors (Blažek, 2012). In this context, the paper focuses on the network theory, regional innovation systems and clusters. There are also mentioned other approaches focusing on the linkages between economic entities and other participants in regional development (e.g. regional embeddedness). In conclusion, the article also presents a set of methods that are used by authors in their surveys in these areas.

In the years 2011 - 2012 but the development was negatively affected tourism so called Arab Spring, the consequences of which are evident in the region till now. Part of the region are 14 countries, all of which abound in very attractive localization assumptions of tourism - and it does not matter whether we speak about rich states or about the states belonging to the poorest countries of the world. On the one hand, we can find here the countries that profit from mining and quarrying (esp. Crude oil) and tourism is for them rather marginal. And on the other hand, we can find states that excel in any mineral wealth, but rather excel in both natural and cultural-historical tourism potential and for them it currently represents a significant source of income (eg. Egypt) or countries in tourism gradually involved (eg. Jordan, Lebanon and Syria) and whose potential is also very important.
