Summary/Abstract: The book deals with the regional innovation systems concept and innovation policy. The concept of innovation systems encompasses several approaches, which influenced our empirical work. It was inspired by a typology of deficiencies in RIS, where three types of regions have been defined: peripheral, old industrial and metropolitan. We were also inspired by knowledge base concept that defines analytical, synthetic and symbolic knowledge base. On the basis of these approaches we established typology of RIS and knowledge bases in the Czech regions. Our attention was also paid to the overall evaluation of regional innovation systems. Innovation policy has significant impact on innovation development too. Therefore, we dedicated several subchapters to implications for innovation policy.
