Summary/Abstract: Development of innovative enterprise is a necessary precondition for socio-economic development and competitiveness of regions. When introducing innovations, enterprises have to face various barriers that have negative impact on their innovation activities. Financial, cost, knowledge and market constraints belong to the main innovation barriers. The aim of our paper is to discuss knowledge from scientific literature and to confront them with empirical results in Czech regions. The empirical data are drawn on several innovation statistical surveys and they are investigated at the level of Czech cohesion regions (NUTS2 regions). We found out that innovative businesses perceive the innovation barriers with higher intensity than the non-innovative ones. The most important obstacles for enterprises are lack of internal financial resources and market barriers related to market that is dominated by established firms. Analysis of barriers to innovation introduction has significant implications for innovation policy.
