Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the basic principles of modern teaching with a focus on the use of modern teaching aids and teaching methods in the implementation of teaching mathematics and informatics. The choice of teaching methods and forms of work is a very important issue for an innovative teacher. Modern teaching methods enable the active involvement of students in teaching, which brings to the fore their creativity, which is actually the goal of modern teaching. The main goal of this paper is to provide ideas and guidelines to teachers for a more creative and innovative approach to teaching mathematics in primary school. The paper presents an example of written preparation for the realization of a lesson in the subject Mathematics (topic: Calculating the area of squares and rectangles in the fifth grade of primary school), which clearly identifies learning outcomes and is focused on the student. In 90preparation, we present the BBC micro: bit, which allows students to show their creative abilities and skills, and using this device to draw and calculate the area of squares and rectangles. Using micro: bit, students will develop skills related to computer science, programming and mathematics.
