Summary/Abstract: The notion of symmetry is necessary for the development of spatial thinking and geometric relations, but also for the understanding of the science. The concept of symmetry is not included in the curricula of primary education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the other hand, the Common Core Curriculum for Mathematics Defined on Learning Outcomes (2015) specifies the learning outcomes in geometry and the corresponding indicators according to which students at the end of the third grade of primary school should recognize and draw shapes that have (axial) symmetry. In this paper, we describe the initial activity in the process 118of developing the concept of axial symmetry and present the results of that activity. Twentytwo pupils of the 4th grade of primary school participated in this case study. They attended classes according to a combined model - online and in the classroom. The analysis of pupils’ graphical works indicates three categories of pupils' actions when drawing axisymmetric figures: procedures that did not result in symmetry, drawing an axis of symmetry and estimating equal distances and folding paper in order to obtain symmetry. The results of the research support the importance of pupils' practical work in the classroom rather online.
