Summary/Abstract: Tourism has a significant impact on the economic and social development of the regions. The importance of this sector, not only for the economy but also for the general development of countries, confirms the fact that the United Nations declared the year 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. This organization appeals to tourism stakeholders and the public to create a number of positive changes in tourism. Their job is to look for new opportunities, ways of promotion, and tourism services in less desired areas. In this sense, the aim of this article was defined – to analyze the tourism potential for the region of Horný Liptov in the context of activities of relevant organizations and to propose new activities for its further development.
