Summary/Abstract: The characteristics of primary school students, as well as the need to opening them to imagination, creativity, critical thinking, etc. justifies the use of playful learning at this age level. In this context, the present study proposes the analysis of alternative textbooks for the primary school in Romania from the perspective of identifying, in them, the premises for the use of playful learning in approaching literary texts. Teaching children’s literature involves, in primary school, reference to well-chosen supporting texts and certain elements of literary theory; playful learning can bring, in addition to the rigorous/ schematic approach of the theoretical coordinates, the necessary openness of children – through “what if?”, e.g. - to the nuanced implications of the characters and the action, to the sphere of emotions and ideas transmitted through literary texts, to new contextualizations and transfer of meanings.
