Summary/Abstract: The article aims to identify and categorize the linguistic metaphors in the German political media discourse regarding the war in Ukraine on the basis of selected press texts. The following questions were answered: Which metaphors are used to illustrate the Ukraine war in the German political and media discourse? Is the assumption correct that fewer war metaphors are used for the description of the war than for depicting the COVID-19 crisis (which was still current at the time the article was written)? The study is based on an official government statement by the German Chancellor and several talk programmes and podcasts dealing with the situation that arose after the attack on Ukraine. A list of examples for metaphors were selected from these sources and are presented and categorized in this article.
