Summary/Abstract: Explicitation is considered an inherent feature of the process of translation irrespective of the languages involved. Other potential translation universals include disambiguation, simplification, use of conventional grammar, etc. Since translations are regarded as having a language of their own, the study of translation universals enables us to find out more about this ‘third code.’ My presentation is aimed at investigating how explicitation is realized in two different translations of Emily Brontë’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights.
