Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to determine the status of the Croatian minority which inhabits Hungary and the extent of its connection with its homeland. The current situation of the minority was analyzed by taking into account the legal-political situation which influencesthe welfare-social conditions and the range of cultural activities. Text refers to the most important legal documents sanctioning the position of national minorities in Hungary. It also presents a legal-institutional system established by the Republic of Croatia, introduced in order to protect national minorities, and to support and strengthen cooperation with them. In addition, the most important issues associated with the community which functions outside of Croatian borders were indicated.
