Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the main linguistic theories of metaphor, such as substitution view, comparison view and interaction view. The author makes an attempt of applying substitution and comparison approaches on metaphors with different type of surface structures. The further discussion on the theory of metaphor leads to acknowledgment of the superiority of the interaction view. Further focus is placed on the acts of adaptation in metaphorical essence. According to the author inopiae causa, conventionalization of metaphors and their interpretation are kind of adaptation.
