Summary/Abstract: Franciszek Salezy Dmochowski (1801–1871) is primarily known as a participant in thediscussion between Polish classical and romantic writers as a translator and a publisher. He isnot known as the creator of prose, which perfectly refl ected the social moods of the 1850s and1860s in the Polish lands. Dmochowski, using both the patterns of the Enlightenment noveland the achievements of Biedermeier literature, is an example of a writer who bases his creativeoriginality on skilful combination of various literary conventions
