Summary/Abstract: The present paper presents the different criteria that we must adopt to obtain a precise evaluation and qualification in academic context. Usually in current teaching methods more importance is given to oral language on writing, since it is considered more profitable from the communication point of view. However, being communicatively competent in a language also means being able to deal with texts written in that language. Texts that correspond to different situations and social contexts, and which must be mastered. On the other hand, the ELE teacher should not only teach how to understand and produce written texts, but should also evaluate and qualify them according to clear criteria. We must bear in mind that with evaluation we refer to the observation and description of the progress of a student’s learning, and with qualification we refer to the attribution a generally numerical value to the performance of a learner.
