Summary/Abstract: In this paper I review the economic, social and territorial inequalities between rural and urban regions in Bulgaria. The depopulation and risk of poverty continue to be a challenge of regional development. Demographic change, investment level, migration, business and agricultural development are determinants of the regional divergence which are examined in the light of governance and financial resources by European Structural and Investment funds. The effects of the European Cohesion funds and Common Agricultural Policy on convergence of the urban and rural areas are subject of analysis as well. The conclusions aims to identify the main lessons of cohesion in the light of territorial convergence and local and regional perspective development.
