Summary/Abstract: Audio-visual translation is part of general translation which is, unfortunately, ignored in the teaching of translation and the translators' training. There are a lot of distinctions between the translation of a written text and that of audio-visual documents. These distinctions are the result of different semiotic codes involved in this type of translation. If the text translation accomplishes a transposition from a written text to another written text, in the case of the audio-visual translation, this happens from the oral to the written code, simultaneously containing verbal, auditory and visual information. This kind of translation requires special skills, such as literature translation, specialized text translation as well as technical skills.
