Summary/Abstract: The importance of the media as a mediator, as the “extensions of man“(Mcluhan) is crucial for citizens when informing about or interpreting significant events. That`s why, this study aims to analyze a media as a channel in the communication situation related to spreading of COVID-19 in Bulgaria in the spring of 2020. The focus is on the reflection of this situation by the online media dnevnik.bg. It is chosen among the most visited ones, according to the global counter alexa.com (ranking for the Bulgarian online media in2020). The research paper analyses the interpretative publications on the topic in the period April 4, 2020 – May 2, 2020. Using the method of quantitative and qualitative content analysisthе study is seeking to answer the following research question: to what extent media messages of dnevnik.bg during the first peak of COVID-19 in Bulgaria are relevant/irrelevant to the communication pandemic situation? In this regard the research also tries to answer some other specifying questions: what is the context of the communication situation? what are the event markers in the coverage? who is the communicators/addressees? what are the subject and purpose of their messages? what are the communication dominants in the messages? what is the predominant arguments? what is the general expressed author’s attitude?
