Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to an overview of the historical development of new media, without which no foreign language teaching practice can do in the modern globalized world. The author of the article examines teaching aids starting from the old methods of the 60s. From the 20th century (teaching aids, visual aids) to the current methods of the 21st century (multimedia) and describes their features, aspects, categories. The study allowed the author to identify the didactic potential of new media (multimedia)
