Reviewing Iza Szostak's Digger Ballet (Center for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor, premiere: 8.11.2015), Karolina Wycisk evokes the ideas of Oskar Schlemmer, patron of the Choreographic Machine project (within which the premiere was held) and describes how his views on dance and the actor's body in dance were translated into the concept and choreography of the ballet written for two digging machines. Stanisław Godlewski reviews the Frog's-Eye View interdisciplinary program, carried out in spring and fall of 2015 at the Castle Culture Center in Poznań. The author covers three performances: Iza Szostak's Feed Him, Angela Schubot and Jered Gradinger's What They Are Instead of?, and Antonia Baehr's Abecedarium Bestiarium. The key to Godlewski's text is the show of various human/animal relationship strategies. The author suggests that through choreographic dramaturgy, the artists have shown the meaning of the words “animal” and “animalistic” using characteristic forms of movement, thus avoiding the trap of anthropomorphization and animalization.

The author states that this year's Sirenos Festival in Vilnius (24.09-4.10.2015) was among the most remarkably successful, despite the extremely pessimistic tone of most of the plays, which were more or less direct responses to the present political situation in Europe. Burzyńska analyzes what she saw as the festival's three best stagings: Heroes' Squaredirected by Krystian Lupa, Boris Godunov directed by Eimuntas Nekrošius, and Cleansed directed by Oskaras Koršunovas, which joined the motifs of madness and dabbling with evil.

The theme of snow/ice, as one of the emblems of Russia, prevails in the works of Vladimir Sorokin virtually as a constant. Depending on the period and direction of the author’s artistic explorations, it acquires different meanings. Initially, it facilitates the deconstruction of classical discourse, but gradually it transforms into a symbol of power founded on violence to eventually become an inextricable part of the metaphor of Russia’s imminent death.

Anna Bajek describes the Orpheus: An Exercise in Dying installation directed by Susanne Kennedy and prepared for this year's edition of Ruhrtriennale (14.08-26.09.2015). The author reports on the event in detail, calling attention to the unusual positioning of the viewers, who, despite their strong interaction with the performers, have no real impact on the course of events. Bajek appreciates the artists' inventiveness in their approach to the mythological subject, and analyzes the diverse staging tactics, marking their manipulative aspect. She also mentions the context of the Buddhist philosophy of “rebirth” as an element of Eurydice's transitory state of existence, oscillating between life and death.

Olga Katafiasz reports on the plays performed during the 8th International Dialog Theater Festival in Wrocław (17-24.10.2015). She devotes the text to two productions by Ivo van Hove based on Ingmar Bergman scripts: Cries and Whispers and After the Rehearsal/Persona.In juxtaposing the staging solutions and the issues in the performances withBergman's works, she turns her eye to the difference in media: film and theater. She sums up her investigations as follows: “In Cries and Whispers van Hove reevaluates the vision of the Swedish director so profoundly that we have before us a performance, we forget about the film. In Persona he appears to follow Bergman with such fidelity that he fails to find his own subject to free the viewer from the trap of comparison.”

The paper is an introduction to the problems of the contemporary works of a Russian writer Roman Senchin (born 1971). The author is considered to be a representative of the new realism current and his prose is a paradigmatic example of socially-oriented literature. Due to the sociological perspective, the article exposes social and political aspects of his work, but less attention has been paid to poetics as such. However, the psychological and existential aspect of Senchin’s work was also stressed. Furthermore, an attempt was made to resolve the dilemma, whether in relation to Senchin’s works it is relevant to use such theoretical concepts as politics of literature and politics in the literature.

The subject matter of the present analysis is Łukasz Czuj’s production titled “The Government Inspector”. The authoress juxtaposes the original text with the aforementioned interpretation, and points to numerous discrepancies. The divergences noticeable in Czuj’s production, such as different space arrangement, shift of focus, change in the genre, may result from the director’s fascination with the Russian culture of the 20s and 30s. However, the divergences are not motivated by the text of the drama, which leads to the conclusion that Czuj’s version, though admittedly interesting, is unfortunately inconsistent with the assumptions of the text.

Noble Women’s Self-Expression in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 18th Century

Straipsnyje, remiantis istoriografija ir šaltiniais, analizuojama XVIII a. kilmingų pasauliečių (dažniausiai didikių) moterų, gyvenusių arba kilusių iš Lietuvos Didžio¬sios Kunigaikštystės, veikla LDK arba už jos ribų. Pristatoma šių moterų literatūrinė ir teatrinė veikla. Tyrimas atliktas naudojant aprašomąjį analitinį ir lyginamąjį metodus. Kalbant apie mo¬terų tyrinėjimus, Lietuvos istoriografijoje tebėra daug spragų, todėl šis tyrimas yra aktualus.The article discusses written sources which represent literary expression by women of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Another focus of the analysis is women’s activities in the theatre as revealed with reference to historiography and other sources. The study is based on descriptive-analytical and comparative methods. These particular aspects are under-researched in Lithuanian histori¬ography, a fact which heightens the importance of the present research. The 18th century is frequently labelled as women’s century not only because discussions started on women’s place and aims in the masculine world but also because women started to perform on stage. Such discussions in the context of the ideas of the Enlightenment started in France and reached the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (PLC) and the Grand Duchy of Lithu¬ania. Possibilities for women’s spheres of activity were influenced by discussions on women’s sta¬tus in society. Women were also dependent on the new cultural and geopolitical circumstances. Although women’s legal status was different from that of men, their position in the public sphere depended on woman’s self-determination and her status in her own family. The first partition of 1772 affected changes in the meanings of women’s roles in society. Women started to be treated as citizens and educators of public-spirited children. Furthermore, women in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania were interested in different literary activities. It is a time when women wrote diverse forms of literature such as diaries and memoirs. Women also translated different texts into the Polish language. In the Grand Duchy of Lithu¬ania, women’s theatrical activities are of special importance. Women were actors and directors of plays. They also translated plays into the Polish language. The theatre was the field which witnessed the emergence of first professional creative women. The present paper is based on the master’s thesis “Spheres of Activities of Active Women in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 18th Century.” The thesis was written at the Department of History, Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2013.

Fostering Lithuanian Culture and Traditions Abroad: A Case of Riga Lithuanian Secondary School

Straipsnyje pristatomas autorės tyrimas, atliktas 2014 m. kovo mėn. Rygos lietuvių vidurinė¬je mokykloje. Ši mokykla ne tik suteikia moksleiviams išsilavinimą, bet ir puoselėja lietuvių kalbą bei tradicijas. Pastebėta, kad mokyklos bendruomenės tapatybė mokyklos švenčių metu konstruojama pasitelkiant „išrastas tradicijas“; analizuojami simboliai, rodantys priklausomybę tiriamai bendruomenei. Taip pat aptariamas mokyklos ir Rygos lietuvių bendruomenės bendra¬vimas. Atliekant tyrimą taikyti dalyvaujamojo stebėjimo, anketavimo ir interviu metodai. Buvo panaudoti 60 respondentų duomenys.The article presents research, conducted by the author in Riga Lithuanian Secondary School in March, 2014. The study included a total of 60 respondents, 43% male and 57% female, respec¬tively. They were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire developed by the author. Participant observation method was used. Riga Lithuanian Secondary School not only provides education but also places great em¬phasis on fostering the Lithuanian language and national traditions. The study revealed that cel¬ebrations help build a community, experience a sense of solidarity and discover new meanings of communality. Every school community has symbols embodying their uniqueness in regard to communities of other schools. The most common symbols are the coat of arms, the school anthem and flags which symbolise belonging to a particular school community. The school com¬munity has numerous invented traditions such as the celebration of one hundred days before the examinations or the ‘Žetonu vakars.’ The festivity merges Lithuanian and Latvian school celebration traditions. Other dates, important not only to members of Riga Lithuanian Secondary School but also to the Lithuanian community in Riga, include state holidays such as Lithuania’s Independence Day on February 16 and the Restoration of Statehood Day on March 11. The school maintains close cooperation with Lithuanians residing in Latvia and Lithuania and strives to promote Lithuanian culture and traditions. It has been observed that not only Lithuanians and Latvians but also students of other eth¬nicities choose to study in Riga Lithuanian Secondary School. The choice is determined by high school ratings and good study conditions. Although Lithuanians residing in Latvia and students from other countries have different motives for choosing to study in Riga Lithuanian Second¬ary School, the school realises its goal to disseminate Lithuanian cultural heritage and to instil a sense of community among Lithuanian students and students of other ethnic backgrounds who study at the school. This allows upholding Lithuanian customs and traditions at the school where the present research was conducted.

Creative Legacies of Arsenij and Andrei Tarkovsky: Presentation at Kaunas National Drama Theatre

From October 23 to 25, 2015, Kaunas National Drama Theatre hosted a presentation of creative legacies by the poet Arsenij Tarkovsky and Andrei Tarkovsky, a world renowned film director associated with elite cinema. The event included viewing of documentary and feature films and poetry reading. It also provided with an opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues and film practitioners. Among the many highlights was a display of exhibits: articles, film posters, scripts and photographs, brought from Moscow for the occasion. Stages across the theatre were used for display of documentary and feature films: the documentary The Student Andrei Tarkovsky (2003) and the uncensored versions of the famous feature films Andrei Rublev (1966) and So¬liaris (1972). Participants viewed excerpts of The Mirror and Nostalghia and the documentary Malyutka-zhizn (2004). Film displays were followed by meetings and discussions with the art¬ists’ circle of friends and colleagues and famous film practitioners from Russia.

A review of Faust 1 directed by Linus Tunström (Staatsschauspiel in Dresden, premiere: 29.11.2014) Irmer begins with the statement that every staging of this drama by Goethe in Germany is put in the context of previous productions, which are important from the point of view of German theater history. In this production the setting is a hospital. The author points out the unusual splitting of the Faust and Mephistopheles roles between many actors and the interesting course of the Gretchen plot. The concept is not, however, capable of supporting all the details of the plays, he believes. Irmer does acknowledge the play to be an important example of the collapse of pathos in the German theater.

Zbigniew Taranienko reports on the 5th Gardzienice Festival of Wandering Theaters (Gardzienice European Centre for Theatre Practices, 15-18.10.2015). The author lists three groups of plays: the graduation projects of the Theatre Practices Academy, Polish plays mainly created by Academy graduates, and four foreign performances (one Ukrainian and three Iranian). Taranienko describes each of the festival productions in formal terms (they include dance theater, monodramas, musicals) and observes how they rework the Gardzienice legacy or use it as the basis for work of new quality. Summing up, the author indicates a few clear tendencies that joined the festival plays.

Participative management or imperative reign in the justice system

The goal of the article is an attempt to give an answer to the question whether the concepts of compromise on the management of the public administration may be used in the management of the justice system and if so to what extent? The article presents selected concepts of the management of the public sector with regards to their possibilities of adaptation for the needs of the justice system. It also shows the specificity of justice system Justice system plays an important role in the course of shaping an efficient state. In the light of the praxeological understanding the state is an organization, i.e. the entirety consisting of linked different networks contributing to the success or inducing failure of the entirety. A poorly managed justice system as a part of the entirety may be a serious obstacle on the way to modernize the management of the country. Therefore the discussion over the optimal model of management of justice system becomes an urgent challenge in the science of management. The prevailing role of justice system is meting out justice and other functions must comply with the prevailing role – ergo they play an ancillary role to the main role. No one and nothing may interfere in the competences of the independent court in meting out justice even the internal and external administrative supervision. It seems that the response to the needs of the justice system may be the model of participative bureaucracy as a combination of different bureaucratic models and other organizational models with the awareness of the needs of the responsible court.

The use of multidimensional association rules in search of determinants of customer satisfaction with services of local government units

The article aims at presenting the results of the application of multidimensional association rules to explore the potential determinants of satisfaction with services. The bases for the search are the results of a study on the importance of social engagement and attachment to the place of residence to the satisfaction of the services provided by LGUs. The article has a research nature and has been prepared on the basis of the results of the survey. The research procedure also benefited from the literature in sociology and data mining available in the form of books and articles. The results of the carried out analysis indicate that between social engagement and satisfaction with services provided by LGUs and attachment to the place of residence and satisfaction with the services there are links and they can be pointed to as determinants of customer satisfaction. One should not assume that the two mentioned relationships relate to the entire studied population, but to the selected groups.

The authors describe these practices, the implementation of which is not significantly dependent on achievement by the local government office a certain level of organizational maturity: methods of quality management (including TQM,ISO certification, and a model of excellence EFQM) a Common Assessment Framework and methods of strategic management (balanced scorecard).

The aim of this paper is to identify how to create organizational conditions supporting intraprenership. The results of empirical studies presented in the article show that organization culture, as well as management in Polish companies do not support much intraprenerial behavior of employees. Empirical studies were conducted in 83 big and medium private and state companies.
