It was not until recently that the presence of Roman law in the history of English law started to gain popularity among scientists. Previous research had focused on historical issues and periods disconnected from one another. The eighteenth century had remained the most conspicuous research gap. The author of the publication conducted a discerning analysis of Roman law. He presented the history of the Regius Professorship of Civil (i.e. Roman) Law chairs in Oxford and Cambridge, as well as the attempts to teach the ancient legal code by civilists – civil law specialists – who were not associated with the university faculty. He also discussed the extant lecture materials. The author scrutinized the university legislation related to the conferral of bachelor’s and doctor’s degrees in jurisprudence at the two English universities, and also focused on the social impact of civilists. He also devoted a lot of space to the eighteenth-century English literature on Roman law. The book helps the reader recognize civilists as an important constituent of the intellectual elite of England.

We are in the presence of a recent scientific paper, an analysis prepared with professionalism, which deals with a topic of great relevance in the inter-human and inter-state relations that contemporaneity has brought to today's society. The paper aims to know the international law of investment as a require to understand the connection between international investment and the science of law, and can be used as a subject (course) of university study. Mrs. Cristina Popa Tache, PhD., presented several proposals aimed at contributing to the regulation of the legal regime of foreign investment and concluded that it can be seen that the legal regime of foreign investment can evolve only through cooperation in this area of all specialists to strengthen legislative, economic and social cohesion, by creating a comprehensive legislative framework, as well as by promoting appropriate government policies. I would like to accentuate once again the special value of this research work in the international context of a topic full of interest in current international relations. Recommending the reading of a wide circle of people interested in the field of international foreign investment law, I am convinced that those who know this monograph will considerably enrich their information in view of understanding a very current and useful phenomenon for this field of information and legal culture.

Modern European Merger Control Policy is the result of a compelling evolution as, throughout the course of time, the underlying objectives guiding its enforcement have been influenced by different school of thoughts, decisions of the bodies supervising the competition, Commission at EU level and national authorities at the state level, and, of course, the economic evolution of the continent. As a consequence, the European institutions together with the Member States had to amend the initial provisions from the Treaty and, later, from the specific Regulation. This book aims at studying the evolution of the European Merger Control rules, from the founding treaties till the last European act providing it, in parallel, analysing the caselaw in the field and its influence in the reformation process. The final Reform of the European Merger Control was implemented in 2004, as a consequence of globalization and rapid developments of the markets, including the digital economy, as some amendments were essential for a competitive and innovative European single market, leaving us with a amended procedure which is presented in the present book.

The current report focuses on the illicit tobacco market and the effectiveness of law enforcement against it in four EU countries along the Balkan route – Bulgaria, Italy, Greece and Romania. Having been affected by both illegal production and illegal trade, these countries face a number of vulnerabilities and threats in their capacities for effective law enforcement. In order to measure and design methods for improving these capacities, the study analyses two comprehensive datasets – the data collected by the tobacco industry on illicit consumption and the institutional data on seizures of illicit cigarettes. The result are several innovative instruments for assessing the illegal cigarette market, as well as police performance and corruption vulnerabilities in law enforcement and revenue agencies.
