Language Components of Cluttering – a Theoretical Overview

This study examined the views of fluency disorders specialists regarding cluttering. Bulgarian university lecturers (professionals specializing fluency disorders) completed a questionnaire that addressed their opinion concerning the nature of cluttering disorder. Based on their answers and a search of the research literature, a theoretical overview regarding cluttering is presented, including the perceived role of language in this fluency disorder. Using a brief, 5-item questionnaire developed by Georgieva, 10 Bulgarian fluency-disorder specialists (with an average of 24 years of clinical experience) reported their professional opinion on cluttering concerning its definition and salient clinical characteristics. A subsequent search and analysis of the evidence-based literature on cluttering indicated that language is a very important part of cluttering.Half of the questionnaire respondents associated cluttering with a language component. All the interviewed logopedists reported dominance of the fluency component and also noted the importance of the motor aspect of the disorder.The fluency specialists demonstrated an understanding of the different communication characteristics of cluttering. Two-thirds of them believe that the language presence within cluttering is dominant.

This article examines some tendencies in foreign language teaching and learning. Emphasis is placed on understanding oral and written text (listening and reading as basic receptive speech activities). Reading and related cognitive processes are seen as an element of key competency for language learning. Extracting specific and abstract information from text is a process by which strategies can be implemented to reach a full, accurate and adequate understanding of the text. An experiment is described related to the perception of Slavic texts by Bulgarian students in the Bulgarian secondary school, in the context of the theory of interlingual understanding.

TEACHING TOLERANCE AT SCHOOL: THE EXPERIENCE OF MODERN FRENCH EDUCATION SYSTEM

The fostering tolerance problem in the modern world is becoming increasingly current in the context of globalization processes and the migration crisis. Following the need to cultivate tolerance in the younger generation, French modern education system aims to install the ‘values of the Republic’ as an element of public school programs. At the same time it turned out that most teachers are not sufficiently trained to carry out educational activities in the sphere of fostering tolerance. The education system reform carried out in 2013 made this training compulsory introducing the so-called ‘Common Core Program’ (Tronc Commun) to future teachers of all specialties. Within the program teachers deepen their knowledge in history, philosophy, law, sociology, pedagogy.

When Mutaftschiev joined the Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Sofia, Professor Iwan Stranski, who established this University department in 1925, was in Germany without any possibility to came back in Bulgaria again. The meetings of the author with Prof. Stranski abroad are described in the present article.

Phonics and Instruction in Reading Comprehension for Pupils with Dyslexia: Six Literacy Teachers’ Perspective

The paper presents the perspectives of six literacy teaching professionals on the use of phonics and reading comprehension in the instruction of English to pupils with dyslexia. Although synthetic phonics is one of the major components of intervention work for children with reading difficulties, reservations for its panace alike attitudes have been expressed combined with a recommendation for a shift away from individual sound instruction towards work on larger sublexical and lexical units. Enhancing reading comprehension skills has been identified as an important element of reading instruction, though underestimated by some of the respondents in the study, and in spite of it not being normally compromised in pupils with dyslexia. The overuse of books based on regular phonetic patterns is strongly criticized as it deprives children of involvement with the text and do not reflect natural language.

A Continuum of Approaches to School Inspections: Cases from Europe

School inspection systems have undergone a transformation in response to the changing social and economic scenarios across Europe. However, two major approaches can easily be identified that also define the two ends of the continuum of the approaches to school inspection. On one end is a high stake sanctions oriented inspection while on the other end is the low stakes advisory inspection. The elements that contribute to the rigour of school inspection include governance arrangements, statutory powers of the inspectorate including powers of sanction, the forms and frequency of inspection visits, the level of emphasis on school self-evaluation and action planning for improvement; and availability of support services for the schools. The current paper presents four cases from Europe: Bulgaria, Ireland, Greece and Spain (Extremadura) describing how school inspection is organised in these countries as defined in the governing legislation and to which end of the continuum their inspection system is tilted in the light of that case’s performance on the above indicators. Towards the end, this paper makes a comparison of the cases and suggests why the relationship of trust and respect between inspectors and the inspected is stronger in some cases and how developing inspection systems can benefit from analysing the established systems.

A common problem that teacher faces in educating Roma students is the unsustainable and unsatisfactory development of oral communication skills in the official Bulgarian language as a second language of this group of students. A serious barrier is the phenomenon of “linguistic interference”, which, in turn, impedes the formation of phonological and phonemic competence, which guarantee a successful “entry” into Bulgarian writing. With this in mind, the article justifies the theoretically discussed issue. On this background, an approbated diagnostic toolkit is presented for measuring the phonological and phonemic competences as a “key” for “entering” into reading the official Bulgarian language as a second language – entry into first grade, Roma students.

Philosophy as an Integrative Component of Educational Culture in the Situation of the Information Society: Socio-psychological Aspects

The system-forming significance of philosophical education in the system of humanitarian and technological knowledge, as well as the determining influence of philosophical culture and worldview on the system of meaning and the phenomenon of vitality, is updated in the information society. This problem is especially acute in situations of existential crises especially. The co-authors apply an integrative methodology for combining psychological and philosophical discourses, relying on the conceptual and methodological apparatus of researchers – both psychologists and philosophers, and sociologists. The fundamental existential significance of philosophical worldview in the system of education and training leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to restore the status of philosophical knowledge as an integrative component of educational culture. The considered philosophical sociological and psychological aspects of existential values will help to reveal the axiological potential of the person, which is realized in the process of education and professional activity.

The article discusses one of the linguo-didactologic goals oriented to the teaching of Old Bulgarian (Slavonic) as the establishing of systematic relations between diachrony and synchrony. Concrete example are the uses of the preposition except in a translated juridical text from 1262, some of which overlap with the contemporary use of the preposition except in complex conjunctions appropriated to the administrative style. The main conclusion concerns the localization character of except in texts and manuscripts of Southern, or Balkan Slavic origin. The Preslav Literary School plays a definitive role for its imposing in the literary language. The unchangeable prepositional functions prove the continuity between the Medieval and the Modern Bulgarian language.

Inclusive Education in Pre-University Education in Romania a Case Study: The Eduform Project

The first part of the paper presents the concept of inclusive education, its evolution and the main international and Romanian approaches that are the basis of the process of transition from exclusion to inclusion in schools. The paper starts from the premise that the classroom teaching staff have a fundamental role in the process of inclusion, being responsible for the education of all the students. The attitude of teaching staff towards the inclusive education depends on their experience, their initial training and the existence of some forms of support in the classroom. In order to meet the need of qualified teaching staff and support staff in the pre-university education, from disadvantaged schools, to be transformed into inclusive schools, it was initiated by the “Spiru Haret National Society for Education, Science and Culture” (SNSH) in partnership with the Mehedinți and Caraș-Sever in County Inspectorates, the inclusive quality EDUcation project through lifelong professional training with the acronym EduForm, a project financed by the European Union. The training programmes developed through this project are designed so that the skills acquired by the trained persons become adaptable for the inclusion of all students in the mass education. Among the achievements of this project is the fact that the activities that will be developed by teaching staff, the support staff and school managers through the project,will lead, in the future, to change the mentality regarding the students in vulnerable situations. A viable school-parent-community partnership will be created, teaching staff will be increasingly involved in activities with children, and local authorities will be closer to schools seeing the improvement of the school situation of students and the quality of education implemented in these and will support through various ways, in the future, these schools.

The text focuses on the research approach in preparing teachers of Bulgarian language as one of the main ways to solve the controversy between the accumulation of a huge amount of knowledge in university education and the inability of trainees to put it into practice. The focus is on the problems which trainee-teachers of Bulgarian language face in view of the modern teaching requirements.In this context, research competence is seen as one of the most important components of a teacher's professional and pedagogical expertise. Its formation is traced in the process of research activity carried out by future teachers during their studies at the university. An example of a pilot model for classroom and extracurricular work in the foundation discipline Introduction to General Linguistics shows the effect of students conducting research on the formation of the competencies and skills that underlie their development as specialists in Bulgarian, and the development of their professional self-esteem.

The report presents the results of a nationally representative sociolinguistic survey of language attitudes in relation to proficiency in 9 grammatical norms. The answers of the respondents are divided into two groups according to the attribute educational activity: students and non-learners. Since the same standards are verified by the National matriculation exam in Bulgarian standard language, it is possible to verify, through the examination of the data, whether this educational practice has an impact on grammatical competence. The analysis shows that National matriculation exam in Bulgarian standard language has a positive influence on the knowledge and application of grammatical norms in dynamics – a feedback that has not been studied so far.

The Development of Managerial Creativity of Future Heads of Preschool Education in a Higher Educational Institution

In the current conditions of development of preschool education in Ukraine, focused on the world and European educational standards, the professional quality of heads of preschool education such as managerial creativity is of great importance, updating of which in management activity will make it possible to make effective, non-standard managerial decisions, ensure the work of preschool educational institutions in the regime of development, not functioning and condition the high quality of preschool education and successful development of every child of preschool age. However, in the practice of local preschool education, there is a shortage of managerial creativity among the heads of preschool education. Therefore, the study of peculiarities of the development of this quality among future heads is the aim of our research that will help to develop and use a system for the development of managerial creativity in the context of university education and independent student activity.

The new strategies for teaching and learning point to the investigation and the deployment of workable learning methods and scenarios for better understanding of the learning content and engage learners in more active participation during the perceiving of knowledge. Good educational results are achieved by storytelling, understanding-by-design, serious educational games, game components, learning-by-authoring, and/or any combinations of them, when the specific learner’s needs and wishes are kept in mind and different digital resources (viz. cultural, historical, encyclopedic, etc.) are contextually used for the target learning purposes. This paper presents some conceptual models for the development of online learning games in the cultural heritage field.

The Management of the Kindergarten – Young Teachers of Children as a Manager Resource

The job of a manager dealing with young specialists, kindergarten teachers, seen as a significant part of the management of human resources as well as strategic management, gives the manager challenges which are considered a risk and precaution for the attractive image of the kindergarten. The hereby presented regional study attempts at encompassing the specific and complex management by means of three categories which are essential for it – subjects – directors, young teachers and graduated unemployed teachers. It is using the SWOT-analysis of the results of the survey that the managerial estimate upon the contribution of young specialists to the mission of teachers is seen. The focus group consists of ten directors – managers and realizes the simultaneous method of Brainstorming to generate new ideas to attract qualified young specialists. An interview and work in the focus group have been realized in the course of a survey on the self-assessment of sixteen young teachers concerning their “start” as educators and relating to two problems - recruitment and selection of teachers. An official survey of the Employment Agency and a survey among nine graduated unemployed young teachers of children who have completed their education during the last four years (2011 – 2014) analyze the potential of a “reserve” of pedagogical staff.

Musical education has undoubted influence in the process of the overall formation of the personality. The thematic accent in the educational content of music is the Bulgarian musical folklore. The outline and understanding of integrative links with other subjects are necessary to build a productive cognitive process, to preserve and stimulate interest in Bulgarian folklore. The integral approach develops the pupils' potential and motivates them for a deeper study of the subjects.

The article reveals the reasons why students drop out of the education system. The subject of the study is dropping out of school. The subject of the study is the reasons for dropping out of school. Methods of research: content analysis, questionnaire, statistical methods for processing the received data. A study was carried out with 270 pupils from the main and the secondary educational level of schools in the Stara Zagora Region. The results indicate that a significant proportion of the reasons for dropping out of school is taken up by the educational reasons. Pupils rank the leading positions among these reasons to be the poor classroom discipline; the complex learning content included in school textbooks and the incomprehensible teaching of some teachers.

The aim of the research is to examine primary teachers’ satisfaction with their professional activity. Subject of study are 232 primary school teachers who teach different school subjects from the 1st to the 4th grade. A modified questionnaire, with 22 items related to the satisfaction with the teaching profession, is applied. The following statistical methods are used: alternative analysis, variance analysis, non-parametric Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests and correlation analysis. The results show that the items with highest values for the primary teachers’ satisfaction are: the duration of holidays, the professional relations with colleagues, the professional relations with the school management, and with parents. The statistical analysis outlines some significant correlations between different factors of the teachers’ satisfaction. The results from the research reveal the main preconditions for improvement of the work conditions and of the social environment of the primary school teachers in the country

Language Learning in a Nation under Transition

This study investigates some features of language learning in countries in transition, focusing on Kosovo and South-East European areas and viewing the process in relation to language learning culture before. Understanding that language teaching is not a task pertaining to a teacher of language and literature, but to the whole school system, and intersubjective thinking began to produce their effects especially from the fall of the Berlin Wall and thereon, in almost all South-East Europe countries in transition. Kosovo was one of the countries affected by a transitional atmosphere in which introduction of different methods and techniques in the classroom were not only being seen as a need, but as a must. The present paper aims to argue that language learning and teaching, especially in countries that are going through a transition process, represents a very important challenge in terms of inputs and outputs of the system of education of today’s society.
