Fiction and Faction Perplexity in the Historical Discourse

In this article the whole argument lies in discussing a close relationship between history and literature on the generic basis especially due to the long path of theoretical and philosophical coherence. From Antique to Postmodernism, the generic coherence of hybrid discursive formations dictated perplexity of defining perhaps separating the very idiosyncratic composition of them. Thus, this article deals with the philosophy of history in terms of its reflecting on literary discourse or in philosophy of literature. This ambiguity provoked many discussions hereby melted within the philosophical ideas and literary theories with the prior aim finding best possible ways toward idealized truth both in the discourse of history and literature.

Affective Avant-gardism

The text is an attempt to redefine current approaches to the avant-garde literature and art, as well as to overcome the dualism in thinking of modern artistic tendencies. The author discusses works which fall outside existing typologies and descriptions. The research proposition, defined as “affective criticism”, is an analysis of modern arts phenomena from the angle of the categories of affect. The proposed model of reading gives an opportunity to single out another, “alternative” modernity, an avant-garde of the avant-garde, specificity of which is included, among other things, in complicating the tensions between what is intellectual, somatic and emotional.

The article attempts at responding the question how art can possibly function in public space. A reply to this question assumes that associations between art, politics and ethics, fulfilling their potential in (a) public space, will be evidenced. The article evokes our contemporary concepts of such associations, in conclusion, however, predominantly referring to Julia Kristeva.s views. Kristeva namely treats mutiny in terms of individual revolt, expressing itself in opposing dominant forms of social life. Being a form of individual expression, art can thereby become part of a discourse in public space.

Experiencing Cultural Visualisations: the Anthropology of (re-)Construction

The proposed analysis of the category of modernity within the perspective of postmodern critical history of art aims at showing how the relations with an image change where the issue of image as cultural visualisation of experience – i.e. as the speakable language – has been reversed toward a question of experiencing the image. The field of the observation is analysis of the image of a certain (specific) town as a record of social participation in which memory can be watched, i.e. memory becomes visible as a performative category. This is effectuated by means of an aesthetic experience which leads to generation of memory as a cultural experience and to rehabilitation of the notion of emotion and sentimental involvement in perceiving/experiencing art (as in Gernot Boehm). Analysed is a project by young Polish artist Aleksandra Polisiewicz titled Wartopia, a project referring to plans and realisation of a Socialist Warsaw appears as a continuation of the project in question. The idea of tabula rasa which governed the fascist plans has namely been implemented by the other totalitarian regime – i.e. communism and its own visions of a Socialist Warsaw that led to an experiment materialised.

Invincible yet Vulnerable: Race, Disability and Trauma in South Africa after Oscar Pistorius

When the global sporting icon, Paralympian and Olympian Oscar Pistorius was accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on the morning of Valentine’s Day in 2013, one of his many defences was, simply put, that his disability made him do it. An expert witness for the defence made the connection between disability and violence that suggested that disabled people are particularly prone to ‘over-react’ as it were because they feel especially vulnerable. This defence provides the link between the two extremes claimed by Pistorius’s public persona, that of invincibility and vulnerability – extreme physical ability epitomized by sterling sporting prowess and fear of victimisation because of his physical limitation. The formula proposed by this defence is that extreme vulnerability results in extreme aggression. Here I want to analyse what this claim suggests about prevailing social attitudes toward disability and disabled people, particularly in post-apartheid South Africa – or more accurately in post-TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) South Africa. In this article I propose that the corrosive legacy of TRC created rich ground for white victimization and popularised the medical model of trauma.

Структуриране на личността в психоаналитична перспектива

This paper will search to offer a model of the whole-integrated personality with encompassing the structure, the areas and the internal specifications and connections in the personality universum. For this purpose we will follow and derive the basic conceptual models which exist and generalize what personality is in our comprehension. This also will be a phenomenological reconstructing of fundamental types of projections in personality constituting – we will derive the initial approaches to the world of I-instance in Descartes and Kant, but basically we will define the process personality in Hegel as the result of process-ending of the pure thought system. We will also draw for consideration Heidegger’s model in analyzing the personality as an event, as a phenomenon of the live and actual human presence in the world. Thou the essential goal is reconstructing the three-instance psychoanalytical model which will be considered in unexpected configuration by drawing together of S. Freud’s and A. Maslow’s personality depth-structuring. The hypothesis raised up here is: Maslow’s pyramid of basic needs, in its hierarchy reflects a general structuring of the levels of the personality universum, with this the areas of integrity, continuity and I-projecting of whole personality will be formed.

История на човешката еволюция

The present study reveals a new approach of understanding of human evolution reasons. Humans are formed because of a conflict with himself own, but not by a conflict with the nature. As a result of that conflict, the species survival means are no longer successful, and human beings are prompt in searching of individual tools to survive. By that reason, they are forced to abandon their instincts, passing from biological to psychological level of defense. During the evolution process, new models of surviving among the fellows appear. These relations between individuals formed a new biological kind – the Mankind. In their essence these models are instruments of mimicry and misguidance, which paradoxically lead to rapprochement between individuals, transform them into social objects. In the phylogenetic memory of modern men, they appear as mental disorders. Actually, every mental illness is an attempt to throw back the consciousness to ancient models of surviving, created in the evolution process.

Praxeological reflection was studied by means of self-assessment of 21 students. Coincidence between self-appraisal of one’s activity and other students’ evaluations was present in 14% of the cases. Self-appraisal of one’s activity was higher than other students’ evaluations in 81% of the cases. Self-appraisal of one’s activity was lower than other students’ evaluations in about 5% of the cases. Research of personal reflection indicated that 33.6% of 134 students frequently thought of their present and future significance. Almost the same number – 32.8% thought of future glory and recognition. 79.9% declared that they possessed many undiscovered abilities, that they had not known themselves. Striving for one’s significance and reflection in the study are related.

Третичният мисловен процес на кръстопътя между метапсихологията, когнитивната наука и невронауката

The strict differentiation between the abstract-verbal-logical thought (the Freudian secondary thought process) and the primitive, fantastic thought (primary thought process) is conditional and the border between the two is not clear-cut. This fact allows one to postulate the existence of a third thought process, which would fill the empty space. The third process, essentially, can be defined as concrete, imaginative representation of abstract notions, which is subjected to modifications of volition or as a regress in the name of the ego. Due to this position, the question about the third process touches upon some ancient philosophical questions, e. g. the origin of notions, in particular, the so-called conceptual empiricism, and the transcendental schematism of Kant. Also involved are the contemporary psychological research on representations as concrete and nonetheless generalizing image as well as fantastic imagination and reproductive imagination. The third process reveals itself as invaluable means to creative thought, which, in comparison with the secondary process, is elastic and plastic, and exactly due to this fact it can be subjected to modification (constructivism). Subjectivism and constructivism allow one to view this thought process from a philosophico-practical point of view.

It is necessary to seek how, and through what forces do this development goes through as well as what defines and guides it.

Изборът между романтична и потребителска любов през призмата на психоанализата

Despite its centrality in the lives of many people, psychoanalysis, with its traditional emphasis on psychosexuality and rationalism, has generally undervalued the importance of love and romance. This study explores the devaluation within psychoanalytic theorizing and the parallel widespread degradation of love in everyday life. The romantic view sees man as striving towards becoming a cohesive self. Development aims at a self which consists of a continuous flow from ambitions to ideals, from a sense of vitality towards goals which are experienced as intrinsically valuable. Mental suffering is the result of the failure of the environment to fulfil the self-object function and the patient’s symptoms are the desperate attempt to fill the vacuum in his depleted self. The ethic is romantic: maturity and mental health consist in the ability to sustain enthusiasm and a sense of meaning.

Wizerunek kobiety kontra przewlekła choroba dermatologiczna

The aim of the article is to present an example of chronic dermatological disease as a disrupting factor in following the requirements resulting from the contemporary image of a woman. In the first part of the study, historical moral and image changes concerning women have been characterized, evolving from biblical times to the present day. The second part describes the contemporary psychological and media image of a woman and her role in achieving high self-esteem and success in life. In the third part, based on the case of cutaneous ulcers, the dissonance between contemporary image standards and the physical, mental and social functioning of a person with dermatological disease is presented.

Real-Life Frustration from Virtual Worlds: The Motivational Potential of Frustration

The presented paper offers a short general introduction to frustration followed by a discourse on frustration as an integral part of gaming experience with the core distinction between positive in-game frustration and negative at-game frustration. The potential of frustration to increase motivation to play, emotional engagement and immersion is outlined. The paper includes comprehensive research using the means of a questionnaire (n=159) and content analysis (n=327) identifying types of frustrating situations ingames, perceived sources of frustration, the behavioural impact of frustration and the relationship between locus of control and ascribed source of frustration. Results showed toxic behaviour as a leading cause of frustration. The most common declared behavioural output of frustration caused by the toxic behaviour of other players was quitting a game for a certain amount of time. Frustration showed the most motivational potential within the category of frustrating situations related to gamers e.g. being stuck in a part of the game, losing, not succeeding, etc. At-game frustration concerns mainly the category called the “game itself”. Most often the game was blamed for insufficiencies in game mechanics or game design, malfunctioning and technical issues within the game. The presented research did not show a statistically significant association between the source of frustration and a participant’s locus of control. The paper has potential in terms of game design and research of emotion, motivation or immersion.

In the report is presented and developed the idea of the role of the reflection of the mastery of self-affirmation; reflexive self-asessment allows it to be placed under personal control. Trough reflexive self-knowledge, personal self-affirmation is released from the psychological defenses, compensatory delusions and inadequate ways of its implementation. The mature degree of self-affirmation is characterized by the release of inefficient mechanisms of self-assessment and self assertion and targeted use of personal reflexive procedures.
