The present article discusses the general regularities of jazz harmonization. It is known that there are various genres in jazz music, in which harmony does not substantially differ from the classical one. Therefore it is important to compare the basic principles of harmonization in jazz and classical melodies and to disclose their common and different principles. Another reason is the fact that the content of harmony study in Latvia will be updated i.e. in secondary and higher music education institutions it will also cover the acquisition of the regularities of jazz harmony. Jazz harmony followed the rules of classical harmony; it was established by classical musicians. I will name some of the most essential features of jazz harmonization : here the restriction of the distance between voices is not observed, the use of parallel fifths and octaves is not a mistake, a melody momentarily becomes as if polyphonic, a free use of dissonant intervals , the basic interval is dissonant, the basic chord the seventh chord and others. The second difference between jazz harmonization and that of classical music is to be found in the complexity of chords. The basic principles of melody harmonization in jazz and in classical music is to be found in the complexity of chords. The basic principles of melody harmonization in jazz and in classical music manifest both common and different features.

This research paper has to do with internal marketing, an innovative strategy employed to improve information flow between departments and increase employee satisfaction and, consequently, customer satisfaction. The research question examines different strategic approaches and measures used to develop a process through which departments can position themselves in a more attractive way within their companies. The methodology used is a detailed secondary data analysis with the use of all of the different managerial approaches that have been developed to date. Furthermore, a method that describes how unpopular departments can improve their position within the firm, is developed. To derive this catalogue of possible measures, expert interviews were conducted with procurement experts. The qualitative results show that there are only a few approaches available for internal marketing, although there are also a number of measures from marketing itself that can be applied to the specific requirements of internal marketing. An explicit example has been developed that shows how a procurement department can improve its standing.

This article aims to systematize the knowledge on photo-elicitation interview research technique and to present the possible functions of pictures in this technique. Terminology dilemmas, as well as theoretical and methodological assumptions of photo-elicitation interviews are the starting point of the article. Particular attention is paid to four features/processes specific for this research technique: engaging, structuring, reflexivity, imaginary. Then the possible sources of pictures used in photo-elicitation interviews are presented: from secondary sources, made by the researcher, owned by participants, made by participants. Differences in using material and digital pictures in interviews are also discussed. These considerations are extended by the author’s experiences from research projects, which used the photo-elicitation research technique. Four possible functions of pictures in interviews are described: explaining, alerting, contextualization, mediating.

Formerly, art was closely connected to religion. Nowadays, art is such a far-reaching, controversial phenomenon, that the recipient no longer knows what he is looking at. Religion (as an aim) is a great example. It applies to the most intimate sphere of the individual’s life and it is difficult to legally regulate this issue. There is no definition of art, nor of religion, which is sufficiently precise to be a basis for judgments. The European Court of Human Rights has partly dealt with this matter in its judgments but this is still not enough to solve the problem.

Science and art observed themselves for ages. In the twentieth century these two fields have frequently began to combine their forces, biology became the inspiration for art. Artists have moved to the labs. In art the use of biotechnology tools, so far used only by scientists, and materials traditionally associated with experiments and medicine made the art and science began to use a common language. This text deals with one of the important art concepts, namely the concept of “medium”. The text analyzes the journey of the concept “medium”, from the understanding traditional doer him an agency by which something is conveyed, or transferred between two points, “medium” in biology “culture medium” or “growth medium”, until the nineteenth and twentiethcentury understanding of when, also under the influence of art, communication and biological concept of “medium” started to consider parallel. This text talks about all these considerations, the importance of the concept of “medium” in bio-art, and thus in contemporary art, about looking at art as a medium for biotechnology and vice versa.

The paper deals with the issue of forest kindergartens as presented in the German concept of Waldkindergarten. This concept makes a new way of thinking about child pedagogy. These kindergartens are designed to support the child in its creative process along the fact to encourage the child to further explore the surrounding nature. These specific institutions might be regarded as an answer to the challenges of modern childhood, in which the child is exposed to a toxic environment. This very toxicity could be regarded also metaphorically as a pollution of the mind through media and technology.

This paper explores whether MT and IT apply to public artworks. In particular, it discusses whether a public artwork can acquire through time a property that cannot possibly accord with the artist’s intentions, and consequently, whether an interpretation that attributes that “new” property to that public artwork can be legitimate. It also clarifies when an artwork is public and introduces the example of a public artwork that seems to have acquired a property at odds with the artist’s intentions. It discusses and argues that Carroll’s intentionalist account of conversation is insufficient. Conversations, like public artworks, possess perlocutionary features that, at least sometimes, cannot be explained on intentionalist grounds.

This paper deals with the issue of definition of art and artwork in the sense of functionalist approach. It critically argues with the existing terms and meanings of artwork in that sense and presents them as insufficient and inadequate when speaking of modern art. Furthermore functionalism assumes that a great deal of artworks has a specific function, what we cannot say about a large number of contemporary artistic endeavors. Therefore it is being argued here that this approach, how popular it might have been in the past, must be replaced with a new paradigm of comprehension of esthetics.

The title of this paper refers to the famous metaphor used by Pierre Bourdieu, who compared the sociology to a combat sport. The tools of Bourdieu’s sociology of art shed new light on the processes taking place in the advertising agencies (typically analyzed by the sociology of organizations or sociology of communication), in particular the work of copywriters and art directors (“creative employees”). The field of art and the field of cultural production where advertising should be placed, have a lot in common. Similar symbolic struggles take place within both fields. The difference lies in involved actors, the stakes (fr. enjeux) and the source of legitimacy in the field.

Creation of the built environment and research in this field pose a particularly difficult challenge nowadays. The pace of social and technological change does not allow for evolutionary development of cities and the formation of their land use according to current conditions. Creating spatial solutions that are unmatched in their contexts is becoming not only possible, but very probable (see Alexander, 1964). The development of the built environment involves not only art, technology, history, economics and law, but also philosophy, culture, medicine, psychology, sociology and many other spheres in which human life is manifested. However, only a relatively small number of disciplines such as spatial planning, urban design, urban planning, etc. (ignoring at this point the differences in the meaning of the concepts) in their application layer are meant to create space and bear responsibility for it. Also society has certain requirements of practical nature towards them. This article attempts to outline the nature of research on space urbanized by people and to determine the four main fields of research aimed at the problems of man and the built environment. In the next part, particular attention is paid to issues related to the impact of the built environment on the life of its residents in order to highlight the particular role and complexity of this area of research. This study, acting as a kind of test of the research, cannot be considered representative. Nevertheless, the analysis prompts several reflections on the current and future role of the built environment in the development of our civilization, as well as further challenges related to it.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the attraction and motives to mainland students, if they would like to study in Kinmen. This research developed both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the insights of mainland students’ motives, then developed motives to study in Kinmen questionnaire that were measured students of Mainland China. The scale was developed based on studying abroad theory from education and sociology and from interviewing officials, experts and students of mainland. The scale was then administered to 397 senior high students from Xiamen (Amoy), Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou in Fukien province, China. The results showed that there were 7 factors extracted through factor analysis during the establishment of construct validity: tertiary education quality and reputation, tertiary education resources & environment, personal concern factor, cost factor, cognition of Kinmen factor, quota factor, and regulative limitation factor. For each factor, the Cronbach á exceeded .70, a structural equation model (SEM) showed that the theoretical model fit the observed data well. This newly developed scale has theoretical and practical implications for future research on studying abroad and attraction to students from mainland.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of mentoring relationship between faculty members and post-graduate students according to various variables. The sample consists of 99 post-graduate students studying at public universities in Turkey. The Mentoring Effectiveness Scale, developed by Berk, Berg, Mortimer, Walton-Moss, and Yeo (2005) and adapted into Turkish by Yirci, Karakose, Uygun, and Ozdemir (2016) was used as the data collection instrument. According to the study findings, post-graduate students in general find the effectiveness levels of mentoring relationships in universities sufficient. Accordingly, it is suggested that the frequency of mentor and mentee meetings should increase. While the effectiveness of mentoring relationship is not affected by age and gender variables; it is influenced by the frequency of meetings and the meeting method preferred. Study findings also suggest that mentees expect to be appreciated more than the mentors.
