An Attempt to Track the Chronological Sequence of Traditional Music of B&H in Archaeological, Written and other Sources. Sound Reconstruction Possibilities
There is very little information on the traditional music of B&H, and we hardly know how it sounded like, what the repertoire and performing practice were. In avoiding different possible interpretations through an attempt to trace the chronological sequence of the traditional B&H music in the archaeological, written and other sources in the period from the 12th to 19th century, we will try to establish a continuity of mentioning, i.e. a continuity of the traditional performing practice – vocal and dance. The paper includes overviews of dance on the stećaks (medieval Bogomile tombstones), yearbooks, travelogues, letters and casual notes on music made over a long, centuries-long period. The intention is to answer the question: Is it possible, and to what extent, to auditorily reconstruct the old traditional music practice of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on archaeological, written and other sources?
