The Prefix Na- in Bulgarian Verbs: a Cognitive Linguistic Approach

This study analyses the cognitive semantics of the Bulgarian verbal prefix na- ‘on, onto’ and aims to reveal its core meaning. Using a comprehensive inventory of corpora examples, the analysis distinguishes a few subgroups of na-verbs pointing out how apparently distinct meanings correspond to the central spatial meaning in the semantic network of the spatial particle na(-) and how the different meanings of the prefix na- relate to each other. The focus is particularly on the relation between spatial and non-spatial meanings, and on the application of conceptual metaphors that contribute to a consistent and motivated meaning network of na-.

La mise en espace des formules stéréotypées dans le discours politico-médiatique: stratégie d’attraction

Media speeches and press texts constitute a dynamic database that makes available to the public a range of up-to-date information associated with the inalienable parameters of communication. Because of its identifiable physiognomy and its contribution to the profiling of the news, the political-media discourse guarantees a kind of comprehensibility, even intelligibility, allowing to impose a verdict and to reinforce the status quo. Thus, sociolinguistic analyzes consider stereotypical statements as a platform of shared opinions, common and pre-established judgments. Stereotypes function as the set of consensus aimed at constructing a semantico-pragmatic network in which the signifiers intersect, converge and tend, instinctively, to the same signified.

The parameters of the syntactic relation and the mechanism of its formation are investigated.Variations in which the same positioning has a different syntactic function are indicated. Contact and distance can be considered as prototypes of the syntactic relation. We consider the use of a prototype correct, because the syntax assumes that there are both semantic relations and relationships that express them between the parts of the sentence. What predetermines or takes away the relationship is contact or distance.

Словакистиката в чужбина и лекторатите по словашки език и култура по света

The paper discusses Slovak studies abroad focusing on lectorates of Slovak language and culture worldwide. It describes a current form of their functioning based on international bilateral contracts and contracts between universities, as well as the position of Slovak studies in the frame of philological and Slavic education at foreign universities, and current dynamics reflected in numbers of lectors (since some lectorates abroad were closed whereas others were established). The paper also mentions criteria for lectors of Slovak language and culture abroad, namely qualification requirements, selection process, models of financing lectorates as well as issues related to the labour code and legal issues. The paper also describes forms of the methodical support for lectors in the area of Slovak as a foreign language, namely preparing and distributing didactic materials, textbooks and methodical guidelines, seminars, summer schools, scholarships, mobilities, as well as accredited programmes of further professional preparation of lectors

Чуждестранният лектор като мост между езиците и културите

The introductory part of the article is bringing a short overview of history of Bulgarian studies at Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava. Irreplaceable role of foreign lector while studying foreign languages is emphasized and demands placed on his professional and intercultural competences are presented. The second part of the article is focused on a significant Bulgarian Slavist and Slovakist Ivan Buyukliev, specifically his role of a lector at Comenius University in Bratislava. Author mentions mainly less well-known circumstances of his stay, as was for example defence of doctoral thesis on relative clauses’ structure in Codex Suprasliensis or his last article published in Slovakia on Dora Gabe’s lecture stay in Bratislava in 1931.

The initial part of the paper introduces activities of the Center for Slovenian as the second and foreign language affiliated with the Department of Slovenian studies at Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. The central part of the paper discusses the state programme entitled “Slovenian at foreign universities” that organizes and coordinates activities of lectors of Slovenian language abroad. It describes respective aspects of the Slovenian model of foreign lectureships, mentioning requirements for education and experience of lectors, evaluation of their work, system of training and further education, as well as financing lectureships, providing specialized and research literature to lectureships, organizing joint international projects dedicated to presenting Slovenian culture abroad, and other activities.

ON TEMPORALITY

The present study is concerned with what a unified account of temporality could be based on. The proposal is that a theory that accounts for temporality should be based on some universal expression of this semantic phenomenon. The paper opens with the discussion of some problematic issues the traditional morphologically-based approaches raise. Then it is suggested that a solution could be to build the account taking as a basis the semantic types of the events that could be expressed in a clause. Evidence in favour of the soundness of the proposal comes from a comparative analysis of Bulgarian and Amharic data.

Можем ли да погледнем в бъдещето на българския език?

The author of the article answers negatively to the question of scientific linguistic prognosis if it is made through conjectures from the point of view of traditional directions, that analyze the tendencies and development of linguistic phenomena without taking into account the social factor. Needed is sociolinguistic methodology. In the manuscript, the problems of forecasting are divided into macrosociolinguistic and microsociolinguistic and the analysis is made mainly in view of macrosociolinguistics. Pointed out is that the observations should be focused mainly on the Sofia capital's speech, where the leading social classes are. The metropolitan practice afterwards becomes nationwide: the metropolitan fashion dictates the future appearance of the language. Indicated are some perspectives in the current language versions.

The article discusses one of the linguo-didactologic goals oriented to the teaching of Old Bulgarian (Slavonic) as the establishing of systematic relations between diachrony and synchrony. Concrete example are the uses of the preposition except in a translated juridical text from 1262, some of which overlap with the contemporary use of the preposition except in complex conjunctions appropriated to the administrative style. The main conclusion concerns the localization character of except in texts and manuscripts of Southern, or Balkan Slavic origin. The Preslav Literary School plays a definitive role for its imposing in the literary language. The unchangeable prepositional functions prove the continuity between the Medieval and the Modern Bulgarian language.

Изследователският подход в обучението по български език: между традиционното и иновативното

The text focuses on the research approach in preparing teachers of Bulgarian language as one of the main ways to solve the controversy between the accumulation of a huge amount of knowledge in university education and the inability of trainees to put it into practice. The focus is on the problems which trainee-teachers of Bulgarian language face in view of the modern teaching requirements.In this context, research competence is seen as one of the most important components of a teacher's professional and pedagogical expertise. Its formation is traced in the process of research activity carried out by future teachers during their studies at the university. An example of a pilot model for classroom and extracurricular work in the foundation discipline Introduction to General Linguistics shows the effect of students conducting research on the formation of the competencies and skills that underlie their development as specialists in Bulgarian, and the development of their professional self-esteem.

Рецепцията на българската политическа реч от студентите чужденци

The article presents the conclusions of a scientific experiment conducted with foreign students at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. In extracurricular classes, students observe and analyze the speech of Bulgarian politicians and must prepare a scientifically based commentary on their verbal and nonverbal behavior, comparing it with the political situation (politicians and political speech) in their own countries. The object of scientific analysis in this text are the conclusions related to language aggression in public speech, the dynamics of language processes and in particular the discrepancies between the literary normative complex (which for foreign students is leading and representative) and the trends set by usus as parallel language models. Important markers accompanying political communication such as representation, speech readiness, appropriate uses, and the ability to switch language codes are also considered.

Унгаристиката в чуждестранните университети и статутът в Университета „Коменски“ в Братислава

The present paper addresses issues of teaching Hungarian language and culture outside of Hungary, with special attention to Comenius University in Bratislava. In the first part of the paper, the author overviews the historical aspects of teaching the Hungarian language and Hungarian studies and describes the multifaceted nature of the work of visiting instructors in this field as well as the processes of cultural diplomacy that underlie it. The second part of the paper provides an insight into the work and special tasks of the visiting instructors from Hungary working at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, Comenius University, from the founding of the department to the present.

История на обучението по унгарски език като чужд през погледа на лектора и неговата дейност

he aim of this paper is to describe the professional career of Orsolya Nádor, associate professor of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Budapest and current guest professor of the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature of Comenius University in Bratislava. Nádor’s professional career is focused on teaching Hungarian as a foreign language and ensuring the institutional and methodological background of this profession. The first part of the paper gives an overview about the history of teaching Hungarian as a foreign language (from the times of Matthias Bel to the establishment of the pedagogical study programme of Hungarian as a foreign language in 1982). The second part of the paper focuses on the Nádor’s professional career and through it also gives an overview about the history of this field from the 1980’s, when Nádor’s career started. The paper emphasizes her important role in the development of teaching Hungarian as a foreign language by discussing some of her theoretical works and practical syllabuses, highlighting the establishment of the pedagogical study programme of Hungarian as a second language at Károli Gáspár University, and by describing the fourteen-volume handbook of teaching Hungarian as a foreign language edited by Nádor.

In October, 2019, the School Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (StudyBAS) announced a competition for creating small study-research communities (SSRC) within the framework of the program “Education and Science” financed by the Ministry of Education and Science and performed by BAS. The project made by the teacher of Bulgarian Language and Literature, Diyana Boeva from “Geo Milev” Foreign Languages High School – Dobrich, ”Creative laboratory “Georgi Markov as Text” – has been approved among over eighty project proposals from the entire country. This article showcases aspects of the concrete plan of the Laboratory, examines some challenging opportunities for the school students related to the development of their analytical skills so necessary for studying science. Thus, we overcome the stereotype that the literary field is an unattainable abstraction unrelated to science. Four students with their teacher prove that the name Georgi Markov is appropriate not only for a projection of a research community, but is also a way of legitimizing the humanities in times when purposefully or not the STEM education is being regarded in opposition to studia humanitatis.

The article seeks to account for the way key words are picked up for co-reference and whether they are marked as the theme or rheme in the functional perspective of each sentence. A corpus of articles is analysed from major French media. The co-referential chains of the key words are traced to determine the rhythm of the thematic progression.

The article analyses a specialized corpus of texts by a Bulgarian radio host to establish what language items qualify as hate speech. Definitions of hate speech are adapted from the political sphere and given a linguistic dimension within a framework of corpus-assisted critical discourse analysis. The concordances of key words in the corpus are searched for labelling, namecalling, denotation-shifting etc.

The article analyses a little-explored collection of short stories – novellas – by the sixteenth-century Italian novelist Girolamo Parabosco. The argument is developed that in Diporti several innovative features occur for the first time. While following the structure of Boccaccio’s frame novel, the text refrains from imposing a common theme and digresses into several alternative genres, such as discussions, poetry, comment.

The article tackles the issue of English orthography and the challenges it presents to people with various learning disabilities. A range of experiments is reported to elicit the responses of people with dyslexia to specific problems in the traditional system of English spellings. Approaches are put forwards to deal with such challenges both in the ordinary classroom and with people with disabilities. The author urges for more open-mindedness towards the challenge of English orthography.

El concepto de interlengua desde la perspectiva de la linguistica aplicada española
