In a world where communication has changed dramatically and where social media channels have been dominating our lives for a few years now, educational and research institutions are increasingly making use of these social media tools in education, teaching and research activities. The paper describes a few projects dedicated to major historical events like World War One, which are using Twitter as a broadcasting, teaching and engaging medium.

În acest eseu ne propunem să subliniem rolul vizitelor de documentare în cadrul programelor de formare continuă a specialiștilor din biblioteci. Ca alternativă de formare continuă, Biblioteca Centrală Universitară „Carol I” derulează un program anual de vizite documentare la muzeele din București, pentru a observa și analiza din punct de vedere istoric, biografic, literar, artistic și științific, modul în care a evoluat spiritualitatea românească la nivel național, dar și în afara granițelor. Ca metodă de instruire inițială pentru înțelegerea moștenirii naționale, vizitele profesionale la instituții culturale permit descoperirea categoriilor de colecții, structura și valoarea lor pedagogică în procesul de învățare, predare și formare.

In this essay we aim to emphasize the role of documentary visits in continuous training programs of library professionals. As alternative form of continuous training, the "Carol I" Central University Library runs an annual program of documentary visits to Bucharest museums, in order to identify from the historical, biographical, literary, artistic and scientific perspective, the manner in which evolved Romanian spirituality nationally and beyond. As a form of initial training for national inheritance understanding, the professional visits to cultural institutions allows the discovery of the categories of collections, the structure and their pedagogical value in learning, teaching and training.

The changes in the libraries field of Sumy region at the 90s of XXth – beginning XXIth century are explored in this article. Тhe major problems of the establishments of libraries in Sumschina in the new socio-economic conditions of independent Ukraine and the mainstream activity of development are analyzed here. The role of libraries in the field of patriotic and humanistic education of the population is shown. The attempts to optimize the libraries work in low funding conditions are exposed. The special attention is paid to the implementation of modern information technologies in the library work. Also the article contains recommendations on ways to further libraries developing.

The transformation of research libraries, as a continuous adaptation of services to the changing needs of users, requires, apart from modern IT tools, the reconstruction of the organizational culture. The theory of the organization (the method of change management) indicates the important role of leaders, who should have a vision of the future of libraries, taking account of how higher education functions as a whole and the ability to positively influence the staff while achieving new goals.

Dziś, po wielu latach od momentu wytworzenia zabytkowych ksiąg nie zawsze możemy docenić ich wszystkie walory często bowiem ich historia była burzliwa i przyczyniła się do dalekiej zmiany formy wskutek uszkodzeń, a także ingerencji związanych z ich naprawami.

Given the challenges the libraries are facing in pursuit of adapting to the changes of the new century’s information and communication revolution, using project management as proficiency instrument for taming these challenges can be beneficial for libraries. This article abridgedly presents the key theoretical aspects of project management, the state of affair of foreign libraries using project management as seen in the specialized scientific literature from the last few years, and, last, but not least, an attempt to establish the degree of use of project management in Romanian libraries at the moment of 2015 by the means of an interview guide and a netnographical research of one of the Romanian professional online platforms, Biblos [1]. Even though the results of the interview and the netnographic research have not met the expected results, the data revealed a certain status quo of the relationship the Romanian professional community has with project management culture.

Is there a way that the tablet guard in a Babylonian library from 700 BC, the armarius that took care of the VIII century cathedral-school library from York and the director of academic resources belonging a university would recognize each other as belonging to the same profession? The main goal the article is to oversee the development of the library management, using several objectives as viewing it through different perspectives.

The security of collections and people in a library embraces a large number of responsibilities. The costs of maintaining, processing, and acquiring collections are high. If they are stolen or damaged, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to replace. Also, in recent years, personal security is a problem due to numerous terrorist attacks. This article highlights the importance of security in libraries and the view of librarians about the implementation of a security system based on facial recognition in the library in which they operate.

Aspects regarding the implementation of information security standards in organizations

The preoccupation of organizations to ensure the security of information in the digital environment has led to the emergence of specific standards in the field. Thus, ISO 27000 brings together reference standards in the field. Starting from ISO 27001, which summarizes policies and procedures on physical, legal and technological security risks, this paper looks at the steps the organization must undertake to implement the standards.

O bibliotecă se află în serviciul utilizatorilor săi iar nevoile utilizatorilor sunt motorul care determină toate activitățile sale. Satisfacția utilizatorilor este principala motivație și, în același timp, obiectiv al activității oricărei biblioteci. Studiul nostru a urmărit să măsoare gradul de satisfacție al utilizatorilor Bibliotecii de Științe Economice și Gestiunea Afacerilor, o filială a BCU „Lucian Blaga” Cluj-Napoca. Folosind metoda sociologică a sondajului de opinie am adunat, analizat, sintetizat și cuantificat opinia și feedback-ul utilizatorilor noștri în ceea ce privește activitatea și calitatea serviciilor oferite. Rezultatele au fost încurajatoare: ne-am bucurat să avem un feedback pozitiv și să aflăm că gradul de satisfacție al utilizatorilor noștri este unul ridicat. Am avut și partea noastră de critici: observații, solicitări, cerințe, propuneri, sugestii au venit din partea participanților la studiu. Toate acestea ne-au ajutat însă să ne îmbunătățim serviciile, să ne perfecționăm, să creștem și să ne dezvoltăm.

After three quarters of century from the dramatic death of Nicolae Iorga – an important historicist, man of culture and politician, significant data referring to him can still be brought forward.The “Mihai Eminescu” Central University Library of Iași has various pieces of unpublished correspondence belonging to Nicolae Iorga, a photography and several volumes with his autograph. The letters were sent by the great historicist to Paul Gore, Traian Bratu and N.A. Bogdan. The volumes we refer to were at a certain point in Nicolae Iorga’s possession, him being either the one offering them to various friends (Petre Fîntînaru and D.I. Mitru), or the one receiving them (from Queen Mary of Romania).
