In the following text we will present the reaction of the Bulgarian youths from the 1980s to three extraordinary and practically „new“ events for this period in our country, according to the archives of the Information and Sociological Center of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party. We are examining the reaction of Bulgarian youths to the Revival Process, the Chernobyl accident and the AIDS virus, and our aim is to follow both youth’s views on current events and the behavior of the media and institutions – as a rule they function differently in one closed and authoritarian political system.

The text highlights two main ways in which the television discourse in Bulgaria has unfolded in recent years. The first one is connected with postmodernism, but now it looks retro. The second is the result of the influence of social media and networks on television (digital modern-ism). The interweaving and complementarity between these two main types of television discourse produces effects of nostalgia, thus contributing to the maintenance of conservative myths and status quo.

The cultural-historical and language situation of the Bulgarian communities abroad is changing in accordance with the changes in contemporary world, both here in Bulgaria and in the countries with Bulgarian communities. The paper focuses on the changes in the language situation in the Bulgarian communities abroad after 1989. Specific data is presented about the creation of civil and state structures: associations, local self-governing structures, Sunday schools; music, dance and theater clubs; newspapers and magazines, television and radio broadcasts, etc. On the basis of a theoretical analysis of the characteristics of intercultural communication the article highlights the specifics of the process of development of intercultural communicative competence of the young Bulgarians living abroad. Conclusions about the contemporary education in Bulgarian language in foreign language environment are made.

The diverse nature and crossroads of the Bulgarian lands are the reason for the rich history and development in ancient times. The population of our lands is experiencing a long and interesting historical way - from prehistoric times through ancient Thracian civilization to its inclusion in the composition of the Roman Empire. For today's Bulgaria monuments of the distant past are part of the cultural and historical heritage. The preservation of thmonumentse cultural monuments is essential for preserving the Bulgarians' national identity, its relation to the land and the traditional culture as an essential part of its everyday life and a means of survival during periods of freedom or dependence.Bulgaria is a member of the European Union and is part of the global not only economic and social, but also cultural market. This dependence brings in itself as many as positives and threats, especially in terms of our cultural heritage, namely the infusion and dissolution of the cultural identity of the member states. Changes in cultural diversity and its traditional practice for the purpose of its economic exploitation pose a great deal of risk. That is why it is important to create a well-functioning system for the protection of intangible cultural heritage by applying a number of conservation measures.

The main text of the “Vita of St. Basil the New” appeared during the Middle Ages. The text became popular again during the Renaissance, and especially the part of the soul`s trials of Blessed Theodora.This edition is translated from Church Slavonic language and was published by Naiden Ioanovich in 1843. The translation from the Church Slavonic was made by Joakim Kurchovski. This study aims to describe the edition in terms of content and specific features of the Bulgarian literary language.

Every historical period has its own social and economical phenomenon which is descriptive for it. It is symbolic and contains in it characteristic and distinctive features of its time. Such a phenomenon, for the period of Revival in the Bulgarian lands is the Guild organizations with their order, with the specific relations between their members, social, economical and jurisdictional activity. Very important deductions and conclusions can be drawn from the gathered materials for the Guilds in the Bulgarian lands during the period of Revival and especially their Statutes and rules. The offender was subject to two groups of sanctions. On one hand he suffered a punishment to the Soul – Damnation, Punishment by Court of God, Curse. On the other hand the offender was punished with various secular penalties: to the property, physical, disgrace, administrative, distraint, excommunication, bringing to Turkish justice etc. Most often the imposed penalty was a fine in one of its varieties: financial or payment in kind.

The text interprets Khand Tatar and Todorka ballad by commenting the historical terms used from the one hand, and, from the other hand by doing a transformational analysis of the attributes and functions of the mediator in the plot. The situations connected with the Tartars as historical population are analyzed as potential sources of folk personages and motifs. Resultantly, the folklore situation is seen in the light of a possible reflection of the mythological understandings while at the same time the basic psycho-social functions of the ballad are outlined. Thus the reading combines historical and mythological aspects and compares the particular “Bulgarian” case with the universal models and structures of thinking.

In this article, the author deals with the foundation, development, results and reasons of disappearance of the most successful sports club in the interwar era; the Jewish swimming and sports club Bar Kochba Bratislava. After the birth of Czechoslovakia, sports in Slovakia could develop on a national basis. Large national minorities had the same possibilities. To eliminate the risk of misusing sports for political purposes, sport representatives decided to organise it on the ethnic principle instead of the re- gional one. Thanks to this a wide variety of national sports organisations were esta- blished, including some Jewish ones. Even though Jews constituted only 2.01% of the population in the interwar period in today’s territory of Slovakia (Bergerová, 1992: 108), they succeeded not only in sports but in other areas of social life as well.
