Inspired by passions and diverse interests, these studies on Bessarabia are often far from edifying public opinion. We will therefore endeavor to shed light on this issue, by supporting the following pages with authentic dates and documents, excluding any prevention and any special interest. Zvao me nekidan u dva iza ponoći Kožo da ispriča vic. I, naravno, fudbal.

A new stage in the evolution of historical bibliography began with the creation, in 1955, of the bibliographical section of the historical institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, which works in collaboration with the bibliographical section of the institute history of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. It was agreed to resume the regular publication of an annual historical bibliography recording Czech as well as Slovak literature. The first two volumes include literature from the years 1955 and 1956.13 The method of recording literature has remained the same; however, a new classification has been established to meet the needs of Marxist historiography. The choice of literature is more considered; only important works are recorded by eliminating a number of small heterogeneous articles and news. The bibliography also records foreign literature relating to Czechoslovakian history.

We present here a summary of the results, obtained in the field of art history during the last twenty five years, as long as they appear in the publications, published between 1935 and 1959. Naturally, this outline cannot not be complete. It was necessary to confine oneself to a critical choice, and among the articles published in the specialized periodicals, or in the collections written for certain occasions, to mention only those which are of general importance.

The theatre was not only an artistic institution, a focus for the most important achievements and trends in literature, music, visual arts and dance, but also a very important institution of social life, a space where one could show off, flirt, do business; in a word, the theatre was the place to visit. Opera was meant to enchant, dazzle and seduce. An opera performance was an extremely expensive investment. Singers, choristers, dancers and musicians had to be paid. Investments had to be made in machinery and special effects. The basic genres were classical opera and comic opera. These took different forms, particularly divergent in Italy and France.

Bilateral relations in the Aegean Sea basin are the product of a rather complicated mixture of components, involving history, politics, national identities, populist narratives, irredentism, nationalism and regional factors, and as such, finding balance has been notoriously elusive. For the better part of their co-existence, Greece and Turkey have been bouncing from escalation to détente; a sequence that seems to have adopted an accelerating frequency in the post-Cold War period. From the Lausanne Treaty and the Convention Concerning the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations until the new round of earthquake diplomacy in the aftermath of the 6 February 2023 tragedy in central and southern Turkey, lay one hundred years of turbulent relations between two peoples that share much more than borders, but remain divided over national identities and politics.

In the article, I reconstruct the image of Wschodnia commercial street in the interwar period, a street where Jews engaged in trade and small-scale manufacturing. Walking along the street, I talk about the shops and shops, craft workshops, beer houses, tea houses and eateries. The article was based on archival documents, research studies on industrial Łódź, and materials from the local, interwar daily press.

This article provides a synopsis of Parthian military architecture by an initial examination of Arsacid military requirements for the defence of their empire. Following an overview of Central Asian circular systems, Parthian architectural innovations, Seleucid-Hellenic influences, and the tripartite system, Parthian military architecture in the empire’s northeast and Central Asian territories (Margiana, Hyrcania, Aria, Bactria), Iran and the Persian Gulf, Mesopotamia and Syria are analysed. The article concludes with a discussion of possible defensive wall systems during the Parthian era.
