Let me present through this paper a modest contribution to the elaboration of the role of the archives in the preservation of the written source. It is known that the archives as institutions of special importance take care of preservation, protection, arrangement, acceptance, restoration and publication (use) of archival material for scientific research, professional work and other needs in the interest of the society, therefore, the subjects should be stored in adequate and safe places according to contemporary archives standards. This paper is specially focused on the role and importance of the archive in preserving, protecting and taking care of the archiving material, the principles of the protection of the document, the archive storage and physical security, taking as a model the Kosovo Police Archive and the preservation of documents in electronic form. The protection of the archival material has been and remains a society’s issue for more proactive access to archives. That’s why society it must be understood the importance of archives, the need to create conditions, space and material resources for storing archive materials. Unfortunately the archives in our country do not have good conditions and the archive materials are preserved under minimum conditions, exposed to objective factors of physical, chemical, biological and mechanical damage. The principles should be based on legislative policies in terms of archival material protection, while creators and owners are obliged to protect the archive materials under the legal acts.

The second half of the 19th century saw an increased interest in documents that were stored in various public offices, institutions, and archives throughout Galicia (Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria). However the condition of the documents themselves and of their storage were far from ideal. When modern archives were established in Krakow and Lviv, a regulation by National Department (the executive organ of the local parliament Landtag) of July 22, 1887 started the process of registering, ordering, gathering, and preserving of the documents. These efforts were vastly supported by an association of Galician conservators Grono Konserwatorów Galicyjskich.

A school library is a special type of library, intended for a profile of users, students, teachers and other school staff and parents. Some school libraries in Croatia hold thee valuable heritage of library funds, which have the characteristics of cultural monuments. Such libraries are indicators of the historical development of education and school libraries in a given environment in a broader national context. The secondary school of Pavao Ritter Vitezović in Senj in its composition has such a library. It is only a part of the valuable cultural heritage of the town of Senj, which has national historic significance. The school library of Senj’s former high school was founded in 18083 and has retained an authentic library fund and two professional library catalogues. The oldest books are from the late 17th century, that part of the stock is older than the establishment of Senj’s high school in 1725.4 Reports of Senj’s high school are valuable sources of information about the monumental library. In 1986 the library began to expertly arrange and modernise its method of work and equip and grow into a modern school library.

The rise and development of electronic publishing has followed the development of open access to information. Open access to electronic publications allows users to freely access and use published scientific papers. This type of publishing offers a number of advantages, but it also opens up opportunities for abuse. The emergence of predatory(fake) publications and publishers is one of them. This type of publications dates back about ten years and they are serious problem for the research staff, since the papers sent to the publisher are already lost scientific papers. In addition to predatory journals, predatory conferences have become quite popular lately, which are essentially for-profit, low-quality academic meetings that researchers use to share and present their scientific research. The purpose of this paper is to give a clearer picture of predatory publishers, predatory journals and predatory conferences, so that researchers can more easily identify and protect their scientific papers.

Starting from the premise that open science (OS) represents a great opportunity for libraries through the activities it involves, the paper highlights OS implications on the new informational environment. The OS initiatives emphasizing the level of development and implementation reflected in the national OS plans from different European countries are showed. The OS activities and their sustainability are presented as an open access (OA) case study, the results being supported by data from Spain and UK. Although the conclusion is that the OA phenomenon comes with some costs, it is clear that scholarly publications in OA must be adequately supported, promoted and funded. In the second part of the paper we analyze the OA phenomenon in Romania as it is reflected in the bibliometric databases (Web of Science and Scopus) and in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Towards the end, the paper tries to establish the role of libraries in the framework of OS, OA, OD (open data) by answering two questions: Why were libraries sustainable in the past? and Will libraries be maintainable in the future? The first step in redesigning the role of academic libraries is to determine the new tasks they have to fulfill. While doing so, library professionals should not forget that their role is not to save the library; rather, it should be about providing those products and services that help users perform their tasks faster and more easily. The libraries must deliver value, so they must find those activities that cannot be done by others or which they can do more efficiently than others. Identifying them is the very reason to exist in the future.

The paper deals with the traces of avant-garde art and the use of modern typefaces in the prints of Josef Portman. While the avant-garde tendencies of the period appear only in fragments in the bibliographic material published by Portman, and related only to a short period of time (the 1930s), the use of modern print typefaces was a typical characteristic for almost the entire period of his printing activity (1922–1955). The study is intended as an accompaniment to the collective monograph Josef Portman (1893–1968). Na pomezí bibliománie (Josef Portman /1893–1968/. On the Boundary of Bibliomania, 2018). It follows only certain selected aspects, some of which are less widely known. Nevertheless, these are important in helping create an overall picture of Portman’s private printing and publishing activities. The focus of the study is the period of the 1930s and 1940s, when these elements were most prevalent in his prints. This relates primarily to the use of typefaces designed or modified by the pioneering figures of modern Czech typography Vojtěch Preissig and Oldřich Menhart. In the field of illustration, it examines the form and results of Portman’s collaboration with Josef Čapek and Václav Špála. At the same time, attention is drawn to the distinctive features of editions that form part of the Portman Fond of the Art Collections of the Museum of Czech Literature. For further clarity, there is a list of selected prints at the end, which is directly connected to the relevant thematic areas.

At the beginning of the 1940s, František Křelina turned his attention to historical materials. With the example of the historical novel Dcera královská (Daughter of the King), the study shows the possibilities and conditions for publishing prose for politically inconvenient writers both during the Second World War and after 1948. The study is based on previously unpublished archival materials stored in the Literature Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature and presents a new and deeper insight into publishing practice and Křelina’s work. At the same time, it corrects certain inaccuracies in the bibliography of František Křelina.

Bibliografia națională reflectă întreaga producție editorială a unei țări.

The purpose of the article is an analysis of evolutionary stages in the development of online-catalog and the requirements to these services in the context of customer orientation. The methodological basis of scientific intelligence is a customer-oriented approach that allows studying library products and services through the prism its accordance and level of satisfaction needs of customers (users) in the library; the principle of historicism, allowed to identify the origins of online cataloging, the stages of its development and quality of online-catalogs; source analysis and synthesis. The scientific novelty is the technological evolution of online catalogs were studied the first time in the Ukrainian library and the modern requirements to these services in the context of customer orientation and web 2.0 technologies are defined. Conclusions – automation of library at the current stage should be concentrated on developing and deploying electronic catalogs which are suited to the expectation of the new generation as competent web users. Improving the search tools should not be directed at the library staff but used for breaking down the barriers that users have when trying to navigate in different library resources and websites therefore will be possible while the architecture of modern automated library information systems does not interfere with the cooperation of the user and catalog. The evolutionary solution to this problem can be a reconstruction of automated libraries and information systems in the way by changing their architecture to one the user is orientated.
