The paper deals with political dimension of masculinities created in a Soviet blockbuster “The White Sun of Desert” (1970). The first section of the paper dwells upon the film characters’ masculinity in the context of cinematic Cold War. The next section focuses on contemporary Russians’ perception and evaluation of this masculinity. The final section discusses how these cinematic images are involved in contemporary symbolic politics. The author points out that the symbolic capital of these images are employed in forming the hegemonic masculinity of the Post-Soviet Russia — that of the “real muzhik” that in its own turn contributes to legitimation of power and its domestic and foreign policy

This study determines the theoretical, methodical and professional readiness of pedagogy students to use the teaching of seasonal changes in order to form the basics of natural science education in elementary schools. The knowledge, observation and analysis of the seasons are among the first ideas, related to natural science, that form in the mind of a child. In our latitudes, where four seasons turn, the impressions and sensory experiences are an important prerequisite for the formation of a complete and detailed sensory base of children’s knowledge. The sensory basis is a key factor in developing important aspects of knowledge in the field of natural sciences (changes and development of natural objects, related to animate and inanimate nature, as well as cyclic recurrence of natural processes) when educating children in the subjects of The World Around and People and Nature. In this process, one of the preconditions for the formation of basic knowledge in natural science is the inclusion of the cause-and-effect approach as a general cognitive scheme in the education

This study analyses the 1948 Smith-Mundt Act in relation to the broadcasting station Radio Free Europe. The Act, which enabled the US Government institutions – especially the State Department – to overtly spread media propaganda materials abroad, has to be understood within the context of the Cold War’s world-wide political mediapropaganda. This study also looks into the “afterlife” of the Act, the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012, which amended the original United States Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948 in order to authorize the Secretary of State and the Broadcasting Board of Governors “to provide for the preparation and dissemination of information intended for foreign audiences abroad about the United States, including its people, its history, and the federal government’s policies, through press, publications, radio, motion pictures, the Internet, and other information media, including social media, and through information centers and instructors”.

Российская художественная интеллигенция и думская практика 1906—1907 годов

The changed political reality — the establishment of the State Duma in Russia in 1906 — made active a public discussion about a ratio of guarding and liberal elements in business of the state arrangement. The idea of naturalness and «the rule of law» of the autocratic power found unexpected refraction in consciousness of the art elite trying to comprehend the value and functions of new political institute, to understand a measure of its historical correctness. Based on the principles of historicism and system, applying tools of historical-genetic and historical-comparative methods, the author reveals evolution of perception by artists and literature of realities of the Duma practice of 1906—1907. Interest in new state institute in many respects was defined by hopes for civil consent, political and cultural and moral improvement of the Russian life. One of the main functions of the Duma seemed to artists in peacemaking and search of conciliatory line between various political forces and opinions, at unconditional respect for traditions of the Russian statehood, religion, culture. Without denying importance and political importance of new institute, figures of the Russian culture noted such evident qualities of the Duma practice as tendency to a phrase mongering and “theatrical” effects, inability to offer a part of political ambitions for the sake of nation-wide need, the aspiration to approve a policy priority over culture, claims for spiritual one-man management. Moderate conservatives (Octobrists) who could undertake search of balance of interests were slow and shy. The increasing public skepticism concerning opportunities of the State Duma to become the instrument of national reconciliation and consent became a result of the Duma impressions of 1906—1907.

Направления миграции северокавказцев из России (1920–1930-е гг.)

After the October Revolution, those peoples who did not agree with revolutionary changes decided to go into emigration, and among those were North Caucasian refugees. This article aims to describe the vectors of migration taken by North Caucasian refugees in the 1920s and 1930s, using private and public archives in France. Two main vectors were Eastern and European. In the 19th century, those who did not agree with the Russian authorities in the North Caucasus moved to the Ottoman Empire, whereas those who went Europe settled in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Germany. There were various political or social benefits from Czechoslovakia and Poland, and so many migrants from the North Caucasus ended up in these countries as well. A study of resettlement of North Caucasian migrants in Paris and its suburbs reveals four key principles of residence in the French capital: 1. Some accommodations were near places where migrants worked. 2. Migrants with money could live in prestigious areas (the 16th arrondissement). 3. Accommodations among other North Caucasian diaspora (the 15th arrondissement) led to the creation of a kind of resettlement the North Caucasians in Paris. 4. Accommodations were available in the Paris suburbs.

ROLUL PARTICULARITĂŢILOR TIPOLOGICE INDIVIDUALE ȘI FACTORUL DE TIMP ÎN DIAGNOSTICUL DISABILITĂȚILOR PSIHOSOMATICE

The article presents the analysis of individual-typological features of persons suffering from urological diseases, which allows to be concluded that somatic disorders have their own specific (predictable) period of development, which is directly related and due to the specificity of individual-typological features of the subject. The duration of the C-period depends on its own, subjective, psychosomatic quantum of time perception by the subject (SPSC of the subject). A diagnostic model for determining the “risk zone” for the development of a psychosomatic disorder has been proposed.

Perceptions of Preservice and Induction Physical Educators

This study examines the similarities and differences in perceptions of preservice and induction physical education teachers regarding their level of career preparedness and curricular preferences. Findings are based on interviews with 23 participants (12 preservice and 11 induction) from two Midwestern universities. Qualitative data from the structured interview questions designed for the study were collected and analyzed using content analysis and compared with the guiding theory. Trustworthiness for data collection and analysis was followed and validated by guidelines and recommendations (Lincoln & Guba, 1985; Patton, 2002). In addition, 39 individuals from the two universities were surveyed regarding teacher attitudes by utilizing a validated survey (Kulinna & Silverman, 1999). Qualitative data analysis revealed the following themes: a) Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) programs may not adequately prepare induction teachers for the realities of the classroom environment; b) cross-curricular integrations are valued; and c) physical activity for a lifetime is a primary curricular outcome. Results suggest that PETE curriculum may need to be modified to provide increased fidelity in the induction years of physical educators. In addition, these themes signify the influence of the socialization process and its relevance to the realities of induction physical educators.

Interactive Elements in Content Marketing

Owing to the decreasing attention span of webpage users in the current digital age, the tactics to draw an otherwise passive visitor into the website and actively engage him is becoming ever so important. It seems that interactive content is one of the magic wands determining the success of web-based companies on the Internet, and drawing attention of the online user. This study reflects on the current trends in content marketing and it identifies the types of interactive content as viewed by the experts. Using content analysis, we identified a total 50 of different types of interactive content, which can be used by commercial companies on their corporate websites. The analyzed typology of interactive content mainly included calculators, quizzes, interactive infographics, evaluations, surveys and interactive e-books, which can engage and train the users and improve their browsing experience on the webpage. The study ends with a short overview of the expected theoretical and practical benefits.

Innovative Thinking in Environmental Marketing Communication

The Impact of Economic Development on Retail Business

The topic of this contribution is focused on analysis and its impact on the retail performance from the perspective of the customer’s inclination to implement the purchase of consumer goods. The topic is a starting point of putting into effect targeted communication of retail shops with a customer in their radius of action in context with circular economy. Subsequently, maximization of communication strategy effect is based on appropriate communication with target market within limited area determined by buying stream, which affects target customers, influences their shopping decisions and influences the volume of realized purchases in the given retail shop.

Evaluating the reception of an exhibition: DeTermination at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art

The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of an exhibition on visitors’ thinking process. Applying Greiman’s model, we used the exhibition DeTermination by the artist Daniel Pešta at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague and explored the exhibition as a story. The model is used as a tool to better understand the thinking process of the visitor stimulated by the exhibition. Qualitative research approach was used. In order to capture a message of the exhibition, interviews with exhibition creators were conducted and afterward interviews with exhibition visitors. This article summarizes the creative methodology created by the authors, followed by a discourse analysis. The study asks questions like: what is the place of mediation in contemporary art? What is the impact of an exhibition on visitors´ thinking process?

Mikulášské obchůzky na Hornolidečsku jako součást kulturního dědictví regionu

In the Czech Republic, St Nicholas door-to-door processions are among the most important traditions, being often considered the highlight of Advent. It also applies to the region of Hornolidečsko where the first masked figures appear after the All Souls´ Day and roam around villages until the St. Nicholas Day. Devils, who appear in Roman-Catholic villages, are an integral part of cultural heritage not only in the corresponding villages, but also in the entire region. This study describes not only the present-day form of the St Nicholas door-to-door processions and disguises used at it, but attention is also paid to the most significant changes that influenced the form of flying, and shifted the procession´s form to the present-day one. A part of the study deals with historical development of these traditions and figures, that appear in the processions, their role and symbolism within the procession. The goal of this study is to introduce the theme of the St Nicholas procession and its attributes, using the analysis of particular factors which influence its form even beyond the borders of the Czech Republic. In the course of the research, special attention was paid to several aspects that form this phenomenon, such as organization of the procession and identity of both active and passive participants. The study shows a research sample of this tradition´s bearers as well as motivating elements, thanks to which the tradition is still alive and passed down from generation to generation. In addition to these facts, the work looks into the form of support from the villages, but also into diverse opinions of inhabitants in the researched region regarding the inscription of the St Nicholas door-to-door procession on the List of Intangible Elements of Traditional Folk Culture of the Czech Republic. A part of the study answers the question to what extent is the tradition as a cultural heritage indelibly integrated in the region of southern Moravian Wallachia in its authentic and almost unchanged form. The contribution is an outcome of the GIS project in quantitative and qualitative analyses and interpretations of traditional folk culture, which is solved within the programme of Specific Research by the Institute of European Ethnology of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University.

V roce 2014 se konalo slavnostní otevření nové víceúčelové budovy přímo v prostorách bývalé Gdaňské loděnice. Na vzniku ECS se podílela řada organizací a jednou z významných osobností zasahujících do tohoto procesu byl i starosta Gdaňsku Paveł Adamowicz.1 Centrum se věnuje celé řadě kulturních a edukačních činností.

Confessional politics and secret non-Catholicism in the Czech Lands in the 18th century

The period presented in this paper is associated with the rise of the Roman Catholic Church, which in the 17th and 18th centuries restored its position following the Reformation. These developments were accompanied by combatting the remaining “secret” non-Catholics who survived the Czech and European Reformation of the 15th and 16th centuries. It is difficult to determine their exact confessional affiliation at this time because of the specific religious development in the Czech Lands within Central Europe. However, an attempt can be made to identify the factors leading to the enforcement of the interests of either side: the official Church/the ruling dynasty and the persecuted non-Catholics.

Cuilture as an Antecedent to Orgаnizаtional Performancе: A Case of Private Universities in Kenya

With the recent declaration of Sustainable Development Goals to 2030 at the United Nations, all nations are focused on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all. In this respect, a well-structured and holistic curriculum is an important first entry point in guiding learning processes embedded in a strong culture. The purpose of the study was to examine how sustaining culturе аffеct orgаnizаtional pеrformancе in private univеrsitiеs in Kеnyа. This was a correlational study which adopted a positivist philosophy. The study population comprised of all the 17 private universities in Kenya accredited by Commission of University Education. Thе unit of аnаlysis wаs thе board of directors, vicе chаncеllors, hеаds of dеpаrtmеnts (finаncе, sports, humаn rеsourcе, rеsеаrch, quаlity аssurаncе) аnd аcаdеmic dеаns (businеss school) which wаs 136. А cеnsus tеchniquе wаs usеd in the study with frequency distributions, percentages аnd mеаns for dеscriptivе stаtisticаl аnаlysis whilе corrеlаtions аnd rеgrеssion аnаlyses wеrе usеd for infеrеntiаl statistics. Thе study found thаt, orgаnizаtionаl culturе еxplаinеd а significаnt proportion of vаriаncе in orgаnizаtionаl pеrformаncе, R2 = .461. Orgаnizаtionаl culturе significаntly prеdictеd orgаnizаtionаl pеrformаncе, β = .679, t(120) = 10.090, p = .000. This finding impliеd rеjеction of thе null hypothеsis sincе thе p vаluе wаs lеss thаn <.05 sеt by thе study

Current Discourse on Migration in Select Slovak Online Media: Topical Analysis in the Context of European Union and V4 Countries

The research study presents the results of a qualitative content analysis focused on the identification and categorization of the actual themes associated with the term migration (resp. migrants, refugees) and the polarity of presented discourse in the content (title, subtitle and perex of the agency reports, author articles and comments) published on the portals of selected Slovak online media, representing the mainstream (sme.sk, dennikn), news (aktuality.sk), popular (topky.sk) and alternative (slobodnyvyber. sk, hlavnespravy.sk) information sources. We examined the issue in the context of the European Union and the V4 countries, from June to October 2018. Identified categories of themes (political, social, economic, legislative solutions and evaluation of current situation) refer to the balanced dissemination of positive and negative discourse within the mainstream and news media. Popular media presented mainly positive discourse and alternative media presented mainly the negative discourse on the theme migration and migrants.

Media Discourse on Migration as Reflected by Political Caricatures in V4 Countries

This scientific study reflects the migration discourse in the so-called first migration wave (years 2014 and 2015) when the topic of migration became a priority both for the media and political marketing. The pilot study identifies the media discourse on the topic of migration in the V4 geographical area in authorial renditions of a very specific media genre – political caricatures. The message in the media discourse on migration in the caricatures by V4 authors is compared with the identified dominant discourses of the political elites in digital media. The results of the qualitative analysis decode some significant areas of perception of the political positions held by the V4 political leaders by the media recipients – the citizens.

The study analyzes the vocational secondary education in Hungary since 2004 through policy objectives and governmental interventions. It discusses the policy objectives and tools in both periods of it. It points out that the real processes of secondary vocational training has often overridden policy objectives. During the first period, characterized by decentralized education governance, there was progress in reducing early school leaving and increasing the number of vocational school students trained in the workplaces. Subsequent policy focused on adapting vocational education to the needs of the economy, but the centralized education management did not take the social aspects of learning, so many pupils rather chose gymnasium instead of both programs of vocational education.
