Summary/Abstract: There are several methods to study networks, such as direct observation, case studies, as well as statistical, experimental and computer simulation methods. Network analysis, known as Social Network Analysis (SNA) is applied more and more frequently. SNA uses and combines the knowledge from a number of scientific disciplines, such as sociology, mathematics and computer science. The purpose of this paper is to show that SNA – mainly used for the analysis of social networks – can be adapted as a research method to analyze the business network, i.e. the relationships between organizations. This method allows to look at the network from an overall perspective, from the viewpoint of a specific group of companies and a single participant and to make a diagnosis which is the starting point for the improvement of the network structure and the processes taking place in it, such as exchange of information, knowledge, goods.
