Elements of strategic analysis in the management of floodplains space as a tool for implementing the concept of sustainable development

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an application of SWOT analysis in developing land use strategies in river valleys. Using this method, based on the literature, Polish Sustainable Development Strategy to 2025 and research in the San valley and Wisłok valley, developed the basic assumptions on the spatial strategy for riparian areas. The strategic objective relates to ensuring effective protection against floods and to create favourable conditions for economic development and care of natural and cultural heritage. Specific priorities are focused on changing riparian areas, consisting to leave space for the river, tourism development and transformation in agricultural production.
