THE DJEBARIAN COUPLE -LITERARY AND FILM REPRESENTATION-

Summary/Abstract: Assia Djebarʼs literary work written in french is representative for many topics: the colonial past, the role of the family within the Algerian society, the main principles of a relationship, the masculine and feminine energy. Our paper dwells upon the kaleidoscopic view on the djebarian couple. There are five novels to be observed and a movie produced by Assia Djebar: La Soif, Les Impatients, Loin de Médine, Les Nuits de Strasbourg, La disparition de la langue française and the movie La Nouba des Femmes du Mont Chenoua. The writer introduces the reader into a journey starting with a view strongly related to the traditional values of the couple. Loin de Médine goes back in time and illustrates the private life during Mohammed’s caliphate. The last two novels and the movie above-mentioned point out other ways of perceiving the couple.
