Summary/Abstract: Subject of this study is the omitting of predicate, which is one of the most specific features of Bulgarian colloquial speech. Although the phenomenon occurs in the examples of literary language, the loss of predicate and the adding of nominal structures can be definite as mostly conversational feature. The appearance of elliptical sentences without predicate is determined primarily by the desire of linguistic economy, but it is closely linked also to the main features that the colloquial speech possesses: expressiveness, much subjectivity, insufficient preparedness of speech, informality, strong dependence on the situation, lack of formal stiffness, domination of domestic topics, enhanced role of paralinguistic factors, etc.
