Summary/Abstract: This study examines the role of the conjunction ta in Bulgarian colloquial speech. Attention is paid to its frequent use in informal communication in structures which are a typical feature of oral communication (anacoluthon, frame constructions, interrogative remarks, uncommunicative utterances, etc.). With numerous examples is noted its wide distribution in Bulgarian dialects and its presence in Bulgarian literary works. Probably the use of conjunction ta in different parts of Bulgarian linguistic territory (eastern, western, transitional and border), and its wide dissemination in fiction literature are the main prerequisite for its full and varied functioning in speech of intelligentsia in unofficial and informal situations.
