Summary/Abstract: The article examines one of the most interesting methods of the word formation to enrich the vocabulary, while respecting the principle of economy of lexical material - the univerbation with suffix. It focuses on some new and old words, made by univerbation and presented in the popular Bulgarian tabloid "Weekend". The dynamism of the linguistic system predetermines its continuous development and change. The presence of the newly created, still not codified words in "Weekend" in particular and in general in the Bulgarian press, is a normal sign of the trend towards democratization of the printed word, which is highly manifested in Bulgaria after political changes on the 10th of November 1989 and continues today. The proximity between the new journalistic language and the colloquial speech (which is characterized by freedom of expression and more expressivity than the literary language) implies mutual interaction, resulting in many emerging colloquial lexemes, that are certified as written forms first in the print media, before being lexicographically registered. Most of the new words, which are already a part of the often used lexis of the newspaper "Weekend", probably soon, will cease to be correlated to the substandard language only and they will become codified variants and combinations.
