The technique of painting icons on glass and its influence on the state of conservation. Case study – three icons on glass from Făgăraș County

Summary/Abstract: The icon on glass from Transylvania is one of the most numerous folk art products in Romania. The technique and materials used to make these icons have a major influence on the state of preservation, therefore keeping them in unfavorable environments can lead to degradations that sometimes could have the result total loss of the image.This article presents the technique in which these glass icons were made and through three icons from Făgăraş County are exemplified degradations that can occur due to poor working technique or improper conservation.
