EFFECTS OF THERAPY DOGS ON ATTENTION AND MOTOR SKILLS

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview, on the one hand, of dog-assisted therapy and, on the other hand, of the importance of movement in children, with observations based on recent research in the field. We want to highlight the importance of motor development in children, in a world where technology takes the place of free play and greatly reduces children's physical activity. We will argue the beneficial effects offered by movement on the cognitive development of children, we will also highlight the beneficial effects offered by the therapy dog, which appears as a motivating factor in therapy with children. For a better understanding of these concepts, we will present some exercise ideas for stimulating children's motor skills by including the therapy dog in the activity.
